Hello

First let me thank you for this forum. It is appreciated.

Second I am wondering about something. There are many questions about equipment and there are obviously many people on this forum for whom a long walking trip is a very new and rather foreign venture. I know that there are pictures available through the forum but was wondering if an area with different areas for pictures of different albergues, pilgrims on the trail (showing both the pilgrims and the camino) etc might help new pilgrims get a better sense of what they are getting in to. (I am thinking less of pictures of a specific Camino that pictures of specific different elements of the Camino experiencs such as albergues or the camino itself.) Yes there are difficulties but it is a trail, occasionally uphilL and sometimes along the road, but not mountain climbing. Yes you will want raingear and sturdy comfortable footwear but people wear a wide variety of clothing and use many different packs.

I guess I am thinking that for new pilgrims seeing a variety of pictures of the Camino might reduce some of the anxiety of a new venture in a strange country and might give a better idea of what an albergue can look like and what the camino can and will be like.

John , I think this is a good idea and one which might appeal to first-time pilgrims. Kind of like a "virtual tour" of the camino with albergues, gear, food and drink, social aspects, etc.

Who would get this together?

Perhaps the Albergue area would work for this http://albergue.caminodesantiago.me/

I think this is a great idea! ...but I agree with William that it would be best over in the albergue.

Maybe we could create a group for this? Then images could be uploaded to the group.

The "abergue" software also does a better job managing images. It works in the forum, but not a userfriendly as in the albergue. It is easy to also add video there...

What do we think?

Saludos,
Ivar

New members could also see around 20 000 short videos of el camino de Santiago on Youtube or
they can watch trailers of movies, such as the one from Jose Alvarez on the albergues and hospitaleros: Bienvenido/Welcome http://www.caminovideos.99k.org

I met a pilgrim who shot feet, mostly blistered feet. She had hundreds of photos, and they were pretty gruesome. Not all the reality of the Camino will encourage others to make the pilgrimage!

Hello

I couldn't set up whatever needs to be set up in the albergue, my tech skills are minimal, but if it is set up I will learn how to post pictures and will do so.

Looking at this, I don't think there is a need to set up a group or anything.

When someone uploads a photo the albergue, it will appear here:
http://albergue.caminodesantiago.me/photo/photo/list
...and video here:
http://albergue.caminodesantiago.me/video/video

Clicking on any of the photos/videos, take you to the video with space underneath to have a discussion on each photo/video.

Would this work?

Note that the "Alberge" is a different system, so you need to register again over there if you are interested in sharing photos/opinions.

Greetings from Santiago,
Ivar

For those who would really like to have a look at the various stages of the Camino from SJPP

http://www.santiago-compostela.net/fran ... cf_en.html Look down toward the bottom to see pictures of stages. Also available for other routes.

This may work for some until the Albergue can be set up to do a similiar thing.

Here is another pretty good picture presentation of the Camino Frances. Plus other Caminos

OOPS, I see this is the slide show already referenced.
Here is a new question. How can I cancel a reply, once I have started it?

A couple of ways, David.
1) You can simply leave the page without pressing "Submit", and it won't have been saved.
2) If you have already published it, you can go to edit, and that gives you the opportunity to either edit or 'delete' the posting.
(At least I think it does- I don't think it is just my moderator screen that allows that. Could someone please let me know if I am wrong about this being a generally available option?!)

Yes you can edit your post by simply using the edit button on your post as Margaret points out.

A pity to edit the link now it is there David, it is useful to those of us who missed it before.

Further to Margaret's comments on editing or deleting:-
In another post re the Camino Inglés I was able to delete my reply as it was the last entry, but the delete button disappears once someone else has replied. On my screen here in this thread I can only edit, not delete, as there is no delete button even though it is the last post.
I think you have an extra setting, as a Moderator, Margaret.
