Camino de Santiago Calendar

Postby falcon269 on 16 Feb 2012, 16:57

Send me dates and places in a Private Message, and I will enter them on the Calendar. Start and finish data is probably most useful for other pilgrims (lv SJPdP, arr Santiago, for example), but if you have a significant intermediate waypoint, I will put it in, too.

The Calendar is public, so I will use "monikers" that will be recognized mainly by other Forum users. Private information probably should not be posted, though "Lars from Sweden" would pose very little risk! If you think an entry should be modified, let me know.

Buen Camino, Bom Caminho, Guten Weg, Bon Chemin.

The link to it is near the bottom of the page on the left hand side above the box on Facebook friends of the Camino de Santiago.

The link opens the current page into the Calendar - it would be better if the link was bolder and opened into a new page

The link at the bottom now opens in a new window. Plus I have added a link to the calendar after the fist post (on every post). Hopefully that would make it easier to find. :-)

After Wednesday, March 7, 2012, there will be a delay in the entry of calendar information that is sent to me, so you may have to be patient for a week or two before you see yourself on the calendar. The ticking time on Camino computers may prevent me from entering updates. Buen camino.

Leaving Valencia on the tenth of april and hope to arrive on or about the 30th of May.

I plan to do The via de la Plata...God willing just found out my scope surgery on left knee is for March 27 and I leave May 27 spending 3 days in Madrid to get over jet lag. Then a train to Sevilla where I will take in the city for 2 days. I believe by this time the knee should be healed.Am traveling alone but I always look for companions that are suited, otherwise don't mind the walk alone. But companionship is great and good for if problems arise such as illness or injury. So I should be ready to travel from Sevilla by June 2-3.
Buen Camino everyone

That's the same day we are starting and will also spend the first night in Orisson as we only arrive in SJPP that morning (by train from Bayonne). Three of us - me, my husband and our 14-year-old grandson. I'm sure we will meet. Buen Camino

Almost all calendar listings are by the Forum name, so if you want to find a Forum member, type the name in the "Search Calendar" box at the top of the Calendar, and the results should show the information for that person.

For the detail oriented among you, type in your name and see if the resulting search is accurate. Let me know of errors you find.

We are 5 people who will be walking from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela. I am celebrating my 75th birthday this month by doing this...
We will be leaving New York on May 20th, plan to begin walking on the 22nd.
Can anyone suggest the best way to reach Sarria from Santiago? and will we need reservations for that night in Sarria?

Hi Lorrie!
There are bus links, but I believe direct buses are few and far between, so you may have to change bus somewhere (perhaps in Lugo, but others may know better). As there are several of you a taxi from Lugo might also be reasonable if it saved waiting around. Get to the bus station in Santiago and I'm sure they will advise. There may well be a specific posting on the 'Getting to and from the Camino' section of the forum.

You may want to reserve accommodation in Sarria for peace of mind and to have somewhere to aim for when you arrive. However unless you're arriving late at night it probably won't be necessary. It's not a big town, so you can just wander round and find somewhere to your liking.

Buen Camino and happy birthday!

Hello,
my name is Tereza, but friends call me Thea.
I'd like to start in Oviedo on 3rd August. I haven't any company yet. Well, I will be glad to go with somebody. The best point for meet (I think just by map...I haven't been to Oviedo) is Camára Santa de Oviedo at 10 a.m. And I think (for now) I'm finishing in Santiago and then I will take a plane to the Czech rep.
Anyway, where can I get in Oviedo pilgrim's passport?

Thank you for conect me to the Camino de Santiago Calendar and for the answer.

Have a nice time.

Hello

I'm New to this forum business... My name is Teresa and I will be starting my pilgrimage September 15, 2012 starting from St. Jean and traveling the 800k to Santiago - returning to Denver Colorado USA October 20. I'm Very excited... Very Nervous. I'm so thankful for this forum! I've reviewed all the check lists and went on an REI shopping spree- Yikes! How to get it to fit in my Gregory Jade 28 back pack I don't know! My biggest anxiety is blisters. Bought a book "fixing your feet" by Jon Vonhof and freaked out. My first aid kit is bulging! Compeed or Spanko? Yikes! Am I fit enough? I walk @ 7 miles per day... Soon to do a 20 mile day hike. Yikes! I really just want to do it and come what may without worrying about all this other stuff.... How prepared does a 51 year old woman in ok shape have to be to do this track anyway?

Good question. To-day I asked Annakappa what went wrong and why on our first Camino in 2007. She didn't find the right size of boots at the time, reason for which she had sore feet.
She learned and our past 4 Caminos have been without problems.
Do not overestimate your physical capacities (pack weight, distances), avoid the general "pull" of the Camino.
Facilities on the Camino Francés cater for all types of "pilgrims", so that one can adjust one's necessities accordingly. (don't forget that weather conditions can play an important role  )

Ceanothus, I walked my first camino in 28 days and averaged 28 km (17.5 miles) per day. No days off. I was all pumped up of adrenalin and excitement and had a constant feeling of wanting to see what was around the next corner. I have since heard that 24 km per day is more the average.

I suggest that Sept 16 to October 13 will be a bit of a rush although it is possible. Regardless, be flexible, and things have a way of working out.

HI Falcon, I (Tricia) and my husband Rafael will start from SJPdP hopefully on 8/21. WE are coming from San Diego-Philadelphi-Paris_Biarritz_Bayonne_ SJPdP. we were thinking of arriving that evening, staying at a pension, then departing 8/21 for relaxed walk to Orisson, make sense? . if we cant get res, we will just keep on the Camino. on to Roncevalles, but would rather break up the jetlag ...hope to end up in Santiago end of SEpt, then fly out of MAD to San Diego from there. Any suggestions are very welcome, ciao

Hi Falcon269,
I'll be leaving Canada on 2 October for England (doing a course 6,7 October) and hoping to start my Camino walk from St Jean Pied de Port on 8 or 9 October. My goal is to reach Santiago by 13 November, my birthday. The calendar looks a little thin on Pilgrims traveling at that time, so I hope I will meet folks to walk with! :D
Cheers!

I fly into Pamplona, so am undecided which is a better starting point? Especially with consideration to available accommodations. Any feedback is appreciated!

It's a mind-blowing concept that the God who created the universe might be looking for company, a real relationship with people, but the thing that keeps me on my knees is the difference between Grace and Karma.

I am leaving 30th May on the North route with a fellow pilgrim. We are both on the International pilgrimmage then going straight to start the camino. Unfortunately I cannot find the sight on Facebook. What is the actual site name on Facebook :?:

Starting on the Via de la Plata on or about 7 August 2013.
Hope to arrive in Santiago a little before 17 October to serve a couple of weeks with the Amigo Program with JohnnieWalker and the Pilgrim Office.

Wow. That IS quick.

Alan

8) Dates corrected...small time difference. 3 days just wasn't enough for the 1000 km.

Be brave. Life is joyous.

After a great deal of planning, re-planning, negotiating, dithering, and dallying, the beginning and "ending" dates for "my Camino" (just love the sound of that!) have been cast in stone. I leave from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA on 13 May, flying to Paris, training to Le Puy, France and WILL (God willing) be in attendance at the Mass for the Feastday of St. James in Santiago on 25 July, 2013. Our flight home is booked from Madrid on 7 August, so hopefully after Santiago we can make it on to The End of the Earth at Finnesterre. Anticipating the pilgrimage with more delight and trepidation than I can process minute by minute.

Hi

I'm heading out of St Jean on the 4th April 2013 only going as far as puente la reina (wish i could take more time off). I'm returning to St Jean from Pamplona on the 9th and i'm looking to share a cab with anyone going that direction. Great service by the way.

Thanks
