Jaca - Launch of 2010 Jaqcobean Holy Year

The opening of the Holy Year in 2010 will be held in Jaca. Last year almost 4 000 pilgrims from 5 continents stayed at the albergue in Jaca. So far this year 2 100 pilgrims have been accommodated in Jaca. The Aragonese route has shelters in Jaca, Santa Cilia, Arres and Ruesta. It will be necessary to launch a shelter in the area of Canfranc, as the first stage between Somport and Jaca, is very long.
We must reclaim the "Camino de Santiago". el Camino de Santiago in its passage through the autonomous region of Aragon is the backbone of the district of Jacetania. El Camino de Santiago is more than a physical track of passing pilgrims. El Camino de Santiago is a sign of identity as something that we claim ours.
Some 20 years ago Navarre as well understood and turned to Roncesvalles, a true symbol, even in some guides or exhibitions are obvious that the Way of St. James also has an important step in Aragon. To date of the 90% of pilgrims performing the way to Navarre only 10% start at Somport.

One of the keys to our promotion will be in 2010 when, at last Jaca is the scene of the Jacobean inauguration of the Holy Year.

El Camino de Santiago Aragon is not only a physical layout, but a great cultural space and with assets that we know and care. How many regions would take a small area of 40 kilometers in diameter, assets such as Santa Maria Iguacel, San Adrián of Sasabe, the cathedral of Jaca, the Citadel of Jaca, the churches of Santa Cruz de la Serós, the Monastery San Juan de la Pena or the Monastery of San Pedro de Siresa. All this is in Jacetania, all these riches and property have a common denominator, "Camino de Santiago,".
