Hello, its always fun to write something about the Camino de Madrid because, for us anyway, it was a good experience. The weather in Madrid was cool and clear when we started on the 9th of October 2008. We had a few hot days but then the weather closed in for a while with some rain north of Segovia. Towards the end it was variable with some very warm days followed by a day or two with cloudy skies and some showers. The last day in to Sahagun on the 21st of October was very warm, humid and overcast. The thing is that the weather in the Castile is very variable at that time of year, but we had no really cold days.
A pilgrim doing he same route in 2007 in May (I believe) had a lot of heavy rain which produced very sticky and muddy conditions. These would have been the Spring rains.
Don't forget to take a woollen cap, gloves and a jumper for the mountain pass between Cercedilla and Segovia. It's an easy walk but it can be cold on the top. Otherwise you can check the previous notes on the "Camino de Madrid" section.
Regards,
Kevin and Kari O'Brien

Hi,

I've walked several etapas in winter in this Camno.

Between Cercedilla and Segovia is normal to find a lot of snow. When I walked it was about 10 cm and snowing. No services between both towns, and we are talking about 31 km.

After Segovia, mornings are very cold, usually under cero. It's not easy to find opened bars before 11:00 - 12:00 in the morning for breakfast. It's only possible in bigger towns.

And people is fantastic!!

Buen Camino,

Javier Martin
