Temporary closure of the CSJ refuge at Miraz
The Route: The route used by Christian pilgrims when Moslem domination had extended northwards and was making travel along the Camino francés difficult and dangerous. More at the CSJ website, and in their guide. Also have a look at pictures from the various stages here.

Work began last week on the extension to the refuge. This will provide a larger kitchen, more showers and toilets, as well as increasing the capacity of the refuge. The refuge will open in time for Holy Week, although all the building work will not have been completed.

Rumour has it that the Canadian Company of Pilgrims has made a donation of €4,000 to help pay for heating and kitchen costs, so Rebekah may be in luck.

"Projected reopening of Miraz refuge
Work on the extension at Miraz has now begun and the refuge will reopen on Palm Sunday, 28th March 2010."
