what to pack

Postby irremore1 on 21 Jun 2011, 11:34

hello camino walkers, I would like to ask what type of footwear I need to walk from Sarria to Santiago. I have gortex boots but from reading the forum they are unsuitable and I dont want to spend another big amount of money on boots just for a weeks hiking. I would also like to ask about backpacks and sleeping bags --- what would be ideal and reasonable and would I need baselayers for travelling in the month of early September
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi!

My wife and I both wore gortex boots (Mid ankle - reasonably light weight) from SJPP to Santiago.
We will do the same next time.

I wore New Balance trail shoes once, and their walking shoes the other time. There are pages and pages and pages of opinions on shoes here if you do a search. Some feel the trail warrants boots and some, like me, don't.

This is SUCH a personal decision. If your boots are broken in, your feet love them and you have room in them for your feet to swell (due to the heat and hot pavement), use these boots. I personally think gore-tex makes boots hotter but there are those who disagree so again I say, wear what feels good on YOUR feet and have a wonderful Camino!
