Hi I have sone a search and cant find anything hence the question.

I intend starting in SJPP arounf mid September and dont really want to talk a bag albeit, lightweight if I dont have to - would a sleeping sack suffice?

My last recollecftion of Spain in early September was hot....

I would take just the sleeping sack for starting in September, but I like to sleep cool. Whenever I needed one, there was a blanket. Opinions will differ on your question. The facts are that there will be frosty nights at higher elevations in September and October.

I've been wondering the exact same thing.

I HATE sleeping bags with a passion! I get hot, sweaty, claustrophobic, tangled in them URGH! I feel in a fit of rage just thinking about them

Having said that, I too will be walking mid September 2012, and considering it will be getting cooler, I think I'd feel unprepared if I didn't have one. However, virtually EVERY time (even in the cold Australian highlands), by the end of the night I'm either lying on top of the thing, or it's completely unzipped!

So is it worth taking one? Or just a really small light weight blanket?

HI, I sooooo know how you feel, I hate that trapped feeling and normally take a down sleeping bag liner, really light, which zips all the way down and often use it in a kind of duvet way if there is a clean sheet, if not I unzip it and just cover myself up with the other half. Next time on Le Puy route I will take a double silk liner, which I can use as a duvet or get into and still have room to move. There are blankets and clean sheets in most places on that route.

My suggestion also is to get a sleeping bag that unzips all the way down the side and along the bottom so that you can open it out completely and use it as a duvet. This should be lighter than carrying a standard duvet! I always use a silk liner which has a pillow case cover even when using a sleeping bag. By mid-September the chances are that the blankets provided have not been washed/cleaned since the beginning of the season. You do not say where you are starting from and over what period you will be walking, but assuming you start at St Jean on Sept 15, you will definitely require something for warmth by mid Oct.
