Oct Weather Sevilla-salamanca

Postby Lora on 04 Aug 2007, 02:16

Ok, so I have three weeks starting early October to walk another part of the Camino. I have pretty much decided on the first 500 K stretch of Via de la Plata. It is probably a foregone conculsion that there will be a Part 2 at a later date.

I have chosen this piece for many reasons, mainly to escape the crowds on the CF, and the accesibility when travelling from Canada. Vancouver-Madrid, then Madrid to Seville via air, and the return from Salamanca is just as easy.

What kind of weather can I expect, will it similar to the Camino Frances in the fall? Or perhaps (hopefully) less rain than to the north??

Thanks,
Lora :D

Well, the answer as I think you you suspect is that there should be less rain than in the North! This is evidenced in the history section of this useful site: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Europe.htm where you can go back years to check weather patterns in many spanish cities including Sevilla and Salamanca.

But a point which has been well made on this site recently is that with all of the changes to the weather recently possibly only up to date "next 3 or 5 day" predictions are helpful. For example I hadn't expected the pavement thumping downpours in Santiago this week and an interesting development was the number of pilgrims with umbrellas strapped to their packs! There is regular internet access along the way even in the smallest of places and when I walked this section in Janaury I checked the forward weather as I went.

But there is some lovely walking between Sevilla and Salamanca with great accomodation along the way. Enjoy.

Buen camino

Thanks for referencing our Web, but we recently had to mirate from MSN Groups.

Weather in it's many guises are now available at this starting page:

http://www.elcaminosantiago.com/Weather-Camino-Santiago.htm

The Via de la Plata is actually spit up into the 'Astorga route' ...

http://www.elcaminosantiago.com/Weather-Camino-Via-de-la-Plata-Astorga-Climate.htm

and the 'Ourense route'...

http://www.elcaminosantiago.com/Weather-Camino-Via-de-la-Plata-Ourense-1.htm
http://www.elcaminosantiago.com/Weather-Camino-Via-de-la-Plata-Ourense-2.htm
http://www.elcaminosantiago.com/Weather-Camino-Via-de-la-Plata-Ourense-Climate.htm

These are still being tweaked, so bear with me as the pages evolve into their final form.

Buen Camino,
Grant

Good job on the weather pages Grant!

I added a link to your main weather page at the top of posts in the "Weather" section of the forum. It is in the red section towards the top, and will show up on all posts made in the "Weather" section.

Keep up the good work!

Saludos,
Ivar

Thanks Ivar!

Before I embarked on my first Camino, nobody told me it would become such a passion, dare I say, addiction. But here we are, still moving forward, still evolving, paso a paso, page by page, the outer journey and the inner journey. I just returned from the American Pilgrims on the Camino gathering in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Like the gathering last year in Santa Barbara, there was ‘family’ I was meeting for the first time face-to-face. I often knew them already by their Email address in the forums, and some by their books published. Thank you Ivar for providing a neutral ground for the exchange of ideas and information. I know we’ll eventually meet face to face, but until then …

Muy Buen Camino

Similar to the weather in CF but no so wet, and please consider the option (checking your timetable) about travelling from Madrid to Seville by train (AVE) in just two hours, and arriving to the center of the city.

Buen Camino, enjoy it.
