Vegetarian meals on the Camino de Santiago

Jo in the forum, asked this questions related to vegetarianism and the Camino: Just wondering, what does a typical pilgrim menu in an albergue consist of? I’m a vegetarian and don’t necessarily want to go to a cafe or restaurant every night just to get something that doesn’t have meat in it, I’m not going [...]

A pilgrim recently wrote in the forum: So I’ll be walking this June/July, going the Ourense route, hiking solo. Here’s the thing: I am *TERRIFIED* of dogs. (I was bitten when I was little.). Everyone says, “Carry a stick with you for the dogs.” OK, great. What do I *do* with the stick??? More in [...]

Crime is not really a problem on the Camino. If anything happens, many times they do on the way to or from the Camino. This pilgrim talks about one experience he/she had in Madrid: A few days ago I was jumped and robbed whilst waiting for the lift to my fourth floor hostal in Madrid. [...]

What exactly is a Holy Year?

“A Holy Year is a year when a saint’s feast day falls on a Sunday. The feast day for Santiago (St James) is July 25. So, in 2010, this falls on a Sunday. I think that the last Holy Year for Santiago was in 2004. The reason why it is so popular, as far as [...]
