€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Welcome to the forum Steve. There is a hotel near the station in Bayonne that is supposed to be very reasonable,a good nights sleep there would be important especialy if you are walking the next day from St Jean IMO. I cannot find the name of the hotel but I think mspath will know when she is online, she always has excellent information.
Buen Camino.

Hello Sami!
You seem to be much younger than I am, so you will reach me. I'm starting 24/8 from SJPP. Tomorrow from Helsinki-Oslo-Bilbao. Please, say buen camino to me on the way. Old and not so healthy at all.... Buen camino!

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
The first train (may be actually an alternative bus) leaves at 07:45. So, being lodged near the "gare" or terminal makes a lot of sense.

Hi Sami,
How much is the Hotel de Gare? Tried a few cheap places on expedia but you cant check in late.

Hi, Steve!
Have you tried Monte Carlo? It's really across the street from train station in Bayonne. They have restaurant and some kebab etc. are nextdoor... Market is 100mts away. I don' remember how much I have paid in 2011, but it was a bargain for location and comfort. SNCF was on strike that day ;)

Thanks, I'll try the Monecarlo as a few folk have recommended it. The 300m walk to the station from de Gare isn't much in the overall scheme of things
