Cotton liner is not enough for jacobsweg?

I will start my pilgrimage from konstanz to geneva in 28 august for 20 days.
At first I think cotton liner would be fine but I read some articels that in switzerland normally pilgrims hostel doesn't have blanket. So I would like asking that I have to put a sleepingbag in my backpack instead of liner.
And one more thing.
It rain often in september?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I did not see blankets in the Swiss hostels in May; the Swiss walkers (and I) all carried lightweight (ie, indoor) down bags. According to Weather Underground (www.wunderground.com), Zurich got 2 cm of rain in September 2013. Normally September is lovely weather, with only a day or two of rain.

You'll also be better off with a sleeping bag than a liner if you do the "sleeping in hay/schlafen im stroh" (which generally is sleeping in barns). Hay is prickly!!!

Weather - it depends. So far we've had a really wet Summer (I live at the other side of the lake from Konstanz). Zürich is generally drier than what it is by the lake, but normally September is a nice month.

At the moment gravel paths are still decent, but the forest/ry paths are generally muddy. We tend to camp/bivouac during the Summer, but have not bothered this year as there's so much mud (too lazy to clean the mud off the tent...)

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Odd, I walked the route last year in September and only used a silk liner, everywhere I slept had blankets, I slept in the straw about 3 times and there were lots of blankets. I certainly did not need a sleeping bag once and I stayed in as many pilgrims hostels as possible as I had a limited budget.
