May I be so bold as to toot my own horn and recommend: "Camino: Laughter and Tears Along Spain's 500-mile Camino de Santiago"? Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015ROXT7Y/?tag=casaivar02-20

I allowed about 28 days to walk from Pamplona and it wasn't enough. I was 53, had trained quite a bit, walking as much as 20K in less than four hours, but it turned out that 20K on the Camino was a good, full day. I walked up to 28K a few times, but was satisfied with my 20K days. As I got to...
Howdy, y'all, I will be on the Primitivo probably beginning around June 22(?). Maybe the 23rd. Something like that. Tall guy with floppy hat, fresh buzz-cut hair, blue trekking pole, walking with another tall guy who speaks English with a fairly strong British accent. We are starting in St. Jean...
Avoiding the Brierley stages is highly recommended! By me, anyway. I stayed in some wonderful little albergues before I landed at the municipal albergue in Logrono. A nice place, but so busy, busy, busy and crowded, so many people rushing around, crammed in like sardines. The next day, my new...
Compeed really didn't work for me. I developed a hotspot on the ball of one foot, stopped and bought some Compeed and stuck it on there. By the next day, I had a major blister the exact size and shape of the Compeed. It wasn't until I stopped using Compeed and simply applied cotton held on with...
Howdy, friends! Well, it looks like Johnnyman is headed back to the Camino :D
One of my 2011 Camino Frances friends and I will reunite in mid-June and cross the mountains from St. Jean-whatever into Pamplona, then bus or train it over to Oviedo and walk the Camino Primitivo. Neither one of us...
My overnight bus ride from Santiago down to Madrid was pretty interesting! I've never ridden a bus long-distance, and was lucky enough to somehow wind up in a front row seat, with no one sitting beside me, so I could sort of stretch out. Most of the rest of the bus was filled with a bunch of...
Well, my friend and I want to hug the coast as much as possible. I'll check out the Camino Vasco. About 16-18 days of walking from Irun to Sahagun?
NOTE: I just looked at the Vasco route, and neither one of us are keen on retracing our steps. In other words, re-visiting the parts of the Camino...
OK, here's the plan: I will walk from Irun along the Camino del Norte, then head south at some point to meet with friends in Sahagun and Leon. A friend who lives in Spain, with whom I walked my first Camino, is joining me and so is involved in the planning, but I wonder if anybody out there has...
My first day was pretty darn memorable. I, too, wound up in the underground bus station at Pamplona, completely disoriented and jet-lagged. I dragged my duffel bag up the steps to the outside, looked around and had no idea what to do next. Luckily for me, a wonderful young lady happened by and...
Glad I found this topic. I walked the Camino Frances in June-July 2011, and it was a life-changer, to be sure. I'm afraid, however, that the experience has "ruined" me, as far as my everyday life is concerned. I'm so incredibly sick of the every day 9-5, pay bills, go to bed...
Howdy from Texas, y'all:
In 2011, I walked from Pamplona to Sahagun, took a train and bus to Sarria, then walked on into Santiago. Next summer, I am meeting several of my walking companions in either Leon or Sahagun, and walking with them from there to Santiago. I was thinking of walking from...
I probably averaged 20 km a day on my Camino last summer. This was not nearly the mileage I anticipated logging each day before I got there. I thought I'd walk a lot more each day. But it was difficult at times, and I am glad I didn't "kill" myself trying to do too much. I met a number of...
The Camino (last summer) hasn't necessarily helped my career, but I'm sure it has helped me. I'm a public school teacher, and not the most patient, tolerant and nurturing-type person, but a lot of people have remarked this year how much I have changed. Calmer is one description ...
Definitely no need for boots. Hiking shoes will serve just fine. There are slippery spots at times, and the hiking shoes soles help with that, but otherwise, you're not climbing mountains ... geez, I can't wait to get back :)
