The weight of your sleeping bag is not the important factor, what it is made out of is. So, last winter I carried a zero deg rating bag which weighs 675 grams. It was a little bit too warm but I was glad of it on those nights when there was no heating on in the albergues. -10 is way way too...
Where is "home"? How and by what route are you travelling home?
I took mine on the plane (back to Melbourne, Australia) without any issue. It was well wrapped up. I flew from Madrid to Rome then after a week onto Melbourne.
And this is exactly what's wrong with these conversations. The only authority on Catholic Church matters is (God speaking through) the Magisterium of Catholic Church. Individual opinions have no baring on things so please, leave them out of it.

There's a good few threads on here about walking in winter which will be of help to you. Take a look and shoot us your questions that are still left. Good luck working the transportation out, there are also threads on that too :)
I checked the train times for you for a date next week (April won't show up) and there is a Trenhotel train (I travelled on one of the earlier in the year - so impressed!) at 10.30pm departing Madrid Chamartin. It will get you into Leon at 3.07am...I guess you could start walking then...(why...
I too like to plan, I get anxious when I am just walking blindly. When I walked this year in February on my own I would plan the following two day's walk - one day ahead in winter isn't enough becuase you could end up with a 50km walk by accident on the second day becuase of the scarcity of...
Never trust a list! Things change. The best way to know whether an albergue will be open is to ask the hostelliers at the previous night's location. Locals will have a better idea of who is open and can also ring ahead for you to check.
I walked in early February this year and had a 0 deg bag. I was so so grateful for it when there was no heating in the hostels. Other times, I wore just a singlet top and underpants to bed but I was rarely roasting. A couple I met carried 10+ bags and said they regretted the decision...
Where is home? I wrapped mine up in bubble wrap, newspaper and plastic bags and checked it in as a second piece of luggage. No issues with customs upon my return to Australia.
The pilgrimage to St James the Apostle has ranked alongside Rome and Jerusalem since the 13th century. The popularity amongst the whole Christian world, and most particularly western Christians, was enormous. The popularity it experiences now is just incomparable. Times have changed and these...
Nancy, your post and David's excerpt have reminded me of a rather unpleasant night spent in Fromista this winter. There were only two of us in the albergue, the other pilgrim was a guy who did give me a the creeps a little and I was quite worried going to sleep with pictures of him sticking a...
I have walked in both summer and winter and neither time felt I was ever in danger. You need to be wary as you would walking anywhere on your own. I walk with a pilgrim's staff (you can see it in my avatar) and that gives me a great feeling of safety - my last one had a very pointy metal end...
