    Are Trail Runners good?

Agree with most people. Have been using trail runners for years on all sorts of terraine (both running and walking) and wouldn't go back to boots. I would advise doing all your training in them though as there is a lot less ankle support which you may not be used to and the potential to turn...

    Backpack in shower too?

If you are worried about leaving your bag while you shower you could always strike up a conversation with someone who looks trustworthy and offer to watch each others bags while you shower..

Lot's of questions from newbie, please help!

You have had a few answers to most of your questions so I will only comment on your Camera selection. If you are not atleast an advanced amateur don't bother with the DSLR. Its takes time to develop skills and I'm guessing you will resort to the auto settings rather than the manual settings...

ONE thing I wish I had taken, ONE thing I wish I had NOT...

Wish i had taken: lightweight walking shoes rather than full leather tramping boots (bought some in logrono) Wish i hadn't taken: tent (i was travelling europe after camino so needed it- ended up posting to santiago from logrono)

Water bottle or hydration pouch ('camel back')?

Personally i preferred just a cheap plastic bottle bought on route, not really any need for a steel type bottle and it just adds weight. I would imagine having a bladder would be a bit annoying having to get out and refill often and i've heard they can start to smell??

    Constipation!

Re: Constipation!!!!!!!!! Hey there, commenting from my own experiences I have to say an orange a day keeps the constipation away. I don't like to mess around in the morning so would get up and be walking as soon as possible, I would always have a few oranges in my backpack so rely on one of...

    New Member from New Zealand

Hey Gitti, Congrats on the walks completed so far, like you I am planning for the Le-Puy- SdC route around mid-september next year. When it came down to choosing a date I couldnt bare waiting around until 2011 as walking in the busy holy year doesn't really sound like my cup of tea. Hope to see...

    starting el camino next week

Advice.. where to start haha. From my experience the most important thing is being comfortable with the weight of your pack and not pushing yourself too hard. On my first camino I failed on both these points, packing way to much and walking close on 40km the second day, it pretty much crippled...

    Class of 2009

Hey there, am planning on heading off for my second camino around early september 2009. I will be starting after 6 weeks in Africa so will make the decision closer to the date whether to tackle the Le Puy- SdC route or just leave from St Jean. Hmm, thats got me thinking, is their any pilgrim...

Santiago early May when to arrive to avoid the most crowded

Hey, I started the camino on May the 2nd and it was very busy at this time, though i heard a few days ahead and a few days behind it wasnt so bad, i just got stuck in a surge of pilgrims. Each year the pilgrim season seems to be starting earlier but it shouldn't be to hectic early april...

    The Camino seems busy ...

Mate its crazy busy, its true bout the alburgues being full very early, im trying to get the days walk done as early as possible and usually finish round 12 anyway, i like the nice cool mornings but this is definitely not what i imagined my camino experience to be like.. the constant stream of...

    Bus and taxi pilgrims

hey, i need to get a gripe off my chest too. I am sick of a group of 'pilgrims' who send one of their group ahead on a bus with the packs, that member is then first in line at the alburge who pays for the lot of them and proceeds to then reserve all the bottom bunks for her friends.. im young...
