Two pairs. My feet are narrow, and they are perfect in the heel, and roomy in the toe box for me. I went up one full size to accommodate my socks and insoles by Abeo.
I love my Sawtooth Oboz hiking shoes, on 3 Caminos. Happy to have the perfect shoe for me.
Now I also wear thin Injinji toe socks with Smartwool over them.
I walked a completely isolated 15 days on the Camino Madrid in 2014. The only Pilgrims I met and spoke with were in this lovely albergue. It is a loss for anyone on this special Camino.
I tried hitchhiking once on the Camino de Madrid my feet hurt so. After 12 days of not seeing one other person and walking, eating and stumbling around alone, I thought why the heck not.
No one picked me up so I kept on walking, but I was praying for a bus or taxi!
I actually stayed at the Holiday Inn in Tres Cantos, believe it or not, when I walked the Madrid. They were very nice and I was happy there for the night.
I have a Ferrino rain coat that is similar to the Altus, but I think it weighs a little more.
Got it on Amazon and have used it for three Caminos. It covers a backpack, but is a coat not a poncho. I love it.
