I used a silk liner on my camino in April 2011 and it was mostly fine. I could most times get a blanket when I felt I needed it. Only problem was that the blankets were sometimes a bit dirty and smelly but if you can live with that, then you will be fine.
Be careful with mailing your extra stuff to Santiago post office posts restante. As I recall they only keep packages 2weeks before mailing them back to the post office it was sent from. If you mail it from Pamplona or before, you will not get to Santiago in time to collect. Maybe things have...
Have you tried Express Bourricot? (http://www.expressbourricot.com) I used them in April 2011 to get from Pamplona to St Jean and I can wholeheartedly recommend them. When I booked I was the only passenger and it was a bit costly but on arrival in Pamplona airport I quickly spotted some other...
In response to markss' post, my view is that some people may well shortchange themselves by walking "against the clock" so to speak. I say this based on my own experience. When I walked in 2008, I set myself a certain target for the average number of kilometres I would have to do daily in...
Hi Sabine
Why not start in SJPP? I presume because of the risk of snow on the mountains? If the weather is good, the trip over the mountain is really worth the effort. I am hoping to start in SJPP around the 17th. Blessings for 2011! Hope your sabbatical will exceed your expectations...
Hallo All. I hope to walk the camino in April / May 2011. The problem is that I have a senior position at the company where I work and my colleagues are not keen on me disappearing for 5 weeks at that time of the year. I am positive they could manage without me for 5 weeks if they want to. I...
I walked from SJPP in May 2008 and really liked the first day's walking (so much that I did not stop in Roncesvalles but pushed on a bit further). I am planning to do the Camino again next year, starting towards the end of April but cannot make up my mind as to starting in SJPP again or...
Hi John. Unless you arrive very early in SJPP, I would stay over for the night. The trip up the mountain is quite challenging and if you start early in the day, you will have more time to enjoy the glorious ssurroundings and taking the odd rest now and then! SJPP has a nice vibe and some good...
Hi Sabine. If this is your first exposure to the Camino, a wonderful experience awaits you. However, if my own experience is anything to go by, you may find it a challenge adjusting back to work and everyday life in a city upon your return to Belgium :) When one is on the Camino, everything...
Thanks for the useful tips, Alan. A few questions: My French is non-existing. Think I will manage starting from Pau? How did you travel to Pau - by bus from Bayonne? Regards, EMS
Hi All
I walked the Camino Frances in May/June 2008 from SJPP to Santiago. What a wonderful and memorable experience! I plan to do the Camino again in 2011 but starting slightly earlier this time - towards the end of April. The first time I managed to do it in 28 days, followed by a daytrip...
Hallo All
My name is Eugene and I live in beautiful Stellenbosch near Cape Town in South Africa. I recently had the privilege of walking the Camino Frances from SJPP to Santiago. It was a wonderful experience and I will treasure the memories thereof for life. To all who will be undertaking...
