I journaled on my 2012 Camino and again on my 2017 Camino ... both trips in the same lightweight notebook. Interesting comparisons. I am currently in Italy for 6 weeks and have a dedicated journal for this country, if I should return ... walked 5 days on the Cammino di Assisi. Journaling helps...
Bus to Finesterre spend the night, as Nate says, walk to Muxia the next day and spend the night there, then bus back to Santiago. Nice 3 day excursion. You can make the walk to Muxia in 1 day or break into 2 days by staying in Lires.
To confirm, yes the bottafumerio will fly at 7:30 pm on Friday nights.
My daughter (from Oakland, CA) and I (for my 60th, from Phoenix, AZ) walked together April/May 2012. We took the ALSA bus directly from the Madrid airport, terminal 4 into Pamplona. You can buy your bus ticket in the...
Hello,
I live in Phoenix and work at the Paradise Valley REI ... just returned from the Camino. If you are preparing for a Camino ( in any year, as I plan to go back ) or have done the Camino, drop in for a chat ... love to talk Camino and prep! -- Laura P
I also just finished the Camino in mid-May and spent the same ... between 25 - 30 Euros per walking day on the Camino. On layover days in larger cities (Burgos, Leon), spent upwards of 50 Euros counting bus and pension or hotel, in some cases. I ate the pilgrim meal every evening and...
Used packs end up in REI's quarterly garage sale, some stores may not have the garage sale, but those that do are loaded with gently used packs and the same salespeople to help fit them ... good deals to be had!
I just returned from the Camino and both my daughter and I used the Osprey Talon 33...
The only place I have booked at this point is in Pamplona, Pension Sarasate. We are walking from Pamplona and wanted to spend the first night in a room with ensuite bath. Will begin walking on Thursday, April 12th .... unless there is just too much rain ...
I am leaving the States tomorrow (AZ), also arriving in Madrid Wednesday morning ... plan to take the 10:45 am ALSA bus (from Barajas T4) to Pamplona .... walking to Santiago from Pamplona. Wow ... can't believe the time is at hand already / finally ... depends on how one looks at it. Checked...
I start on April 12th from Pamplona ... first timer, walking with adult daughter.
Rebecca : I have purple boots too!
Hoping to see all of you along The Way ....
I used the Rail Europe site to book my Renfe TrenHotel seats from Santiago to Madrid. Worked just fine ... well, at least it claims to have booked us 2 beds in a quad room (ladies only), charged my credit card and issued electronic tickets. Hoping for the best when we try to get on the train...
I just called both American Airlines and Iberia, as my flight from Chicago to Madrid is an American/codeshare with Iberia ... was basically told the same that they told Anniesantiago ... not to worry, but keep checking as your flight date draws near ... for me, that is Monday, April 9th!! Guess...
@eileenc: I will be wearing my AHNU MONTARAs for the Camino ... leaving the USA in 16 days!!! I love the boots so much that I bought 2 pairs. My daughter had trouble finding a pair of boots for the trip, gave her my second pair and she loves them ... hers red (actually Tawny Port) and mine...
I haven't found this addressed anywhere on the Forum so hopefully someone knows .... does the Madrid airport levy an airport tax coming or going from the USA? This would be a tax that is paid on the ground at the airport itself. I remember doing this going and coming from some of the airports...
Ah .... points taken! I looked at the elevation graphs and now realize that I probably (really) do not want to make that climb on my first day of walking ... so the plan now looks like this:
... fly into Madrid (arriving ~~ 8:00 am-ish), take bus from airport to Pamplona, spend night in...
Linda: I will be walking from Pamplona to Santiago, leaving April 11th. Walking alone (against my family's better judgement!) ... I have never attempted anything like this alone or otherwise, but am looking forward to it. Hope to see you along the Way.
I will be walking out of Pamplona on April 11th ... only a few days behind you. Will watch for you dancing in the sunset one day along The Way !! Sounds very freeing ...
