I've been interested in this pack for awhile - we walked with Aussie friends who had them, and they seemed pretty awesome. Unfortunately there is no distribution in Canada and I'm reluctant to buy without trying. I do see there is one distributor in Colorado Springs in America... perhaps they...
Someone here recommended iTranslate. Although I have enough Spanish to get along OK, I downloaded it and I really like it. You just type in what you want to say, and it translates it, and it also speaks it. So you can engage the person with whom you're trying to communicate by showing them the...
There is an error in the link. Should be "wordpress", and not "workpress". If you make that change, the link will work. Loved reading your blog, Kathy!
Well, it's possible to get such a contraption, alright.

You would have to find alternate routes around the rougher patches of the camino, but I'm assuming folks in wheelchairs can provide you with advice. Here is...
OK, now I can get it to work. Here it is just so you get a sense of times and rates (Tarjeta Dorada), knowing of course, that it will likely be more in June.
Haven't decided between this and Alsa. Difference of about 2 hours and price difference is negligible.
Thanks for the information and...
On a related note, I'm just looking at the Tarjeta Dorada price for a one-way train from Santiago to Madrid. I've done this several times in the past, but now it's telling me that there is no "direct" train for that one-way route, and it must be booked with transfers. Don't have a clue how this...
Thanks Laurie - doesn't that seem like an odd way of reporting the weight of a pair of shoes!?
You are on an adventure with your kitchen scale - best of luck with that, and I'll be anxious to learn the final outcome!
This is pretty impressive, alright! Much of it beyond me, especially the "homemade" clothing. In my world, we do not know of such things :confused:
I wouldn't buy two sets of trousers. One would suffice, in my opinion. Even if the legs get muddy, just wash them, and you still have shorts to wear. As another option, we always take silk/lightweight long underwear. Wear it to bed, and also the shirt is your long-sleeved shirt, and you can wear...
@StuartM - Be careful what you wish for! We traveled with our kids all the time, lived in Europe for a year when they were teenagers, and now they can't stay put! You are right on about all the benefits of instilling wanderlust...
Those sketchers look good, and are probably best if weight is a #1 concern.
I have walked many kilometres in these:

and I'm bringing them this time too. They're a little heavier at 137 gm. I like the technology. You put them in the oven...
This is just my opinion but I wouldn't wear tights on the camino, for no other reason than I just wouldn't be comfortable. I do wear tights to the gym and around the house. That's it. They sure are popular with the young-uns though, you're right. On the camino, I like a little air on my legs...
Interesting that you should mention wedding bands. On my first camino, I only wore my wedding band, but it became very uncomfortable after not too long, because of swelling of my hands in the heat and being in contact with my poles. So now my husband and I walk "unmarried" and bling-free.
EDIT...
Hi Laurie -
I am not a crocs fan, so I won't comment on them. I have worn these North Face Horizon Tempest Pants for the last 3 caminos. They are super light - lighter than anything I've found, and minimum volume when in your pack. The material breathes well, very durable, and pocket-handy. They...
You know, I'd just like to add, many of us are accustomed to wearing rings, earrings, necklaces, etc. and I have seen many women on the camino with the same jewellery that they wear at home. I would caution you to leave all your jewellery at home when you go to walk your camino. "Bling" is a...
