OBSOLETE COVID THREAD The Municipalities of the Way present their Protocol of Action for the Shelters of pilgrims to the Covid-19

Thank you for this. I am a former Pilgrim & since 2004 have been running a gîte d’étape /chambre d’hôte on the GR 65 in France. Apart from a « protocol » from AirBnB on cleaning & disinfection there seems to be little guidance here. We are remaining closed until 1st August, mostly because our...

    Parking near Porto

If your friend is Portuguese then she probably has a Portuguese number plate. Ours, on the other hand is French, so I was hoping to find somewhere to stay the night & leave it near the accommodation in the same way that we did with Eduoardo at Boadilla del Camino when we re-visited the Frances...

    Col du Somport in October?

We have previously walked the Camino Frances but each year we close our gîte on the GR 65 for 3-4 days in August to recharge our batteries before the busy month of September. We usually spend these days camping at Urdos & this has re-ignited my husband's desire to cross the Pyrenees by the Arles...

    Farewell to Leonard Cohen

As a special treat on the occasion of our 60th birthdays we treated ourselves to tickets for his concert in Toulouse in 2009. Absolutely fabulous. My father was a fan too and we played a recording of Leonard singing "If it be Thy Will" at his funeral in 2011. The world will be a lonier place...

This is a very Negative Post. A Vent.

Hubby & I wholeheartedly agree with your post! Carry on girl, RANT AWAY!!!! We opened our Gite on the GR65 in France in 2004 after following the Camino for the first time in 2003. As time goes on we are finding that people who stay with us are becoming more and more demanding, wanting 5 star...

    Bus Service Ponferrada to Molinaseca

We know we can get from Santiago de Compostella to Ponferrada by Train or Bus but is there a Bus service that can take us from Ponferrada to Molinaseca or will we have to walk or take a taxi?

FFRP Advice for Col du Somport

Thanks Falcon, we were at Urdos on a car trip with a friend at end of March and saw a walker on the road near Portalet so assumed it must be OK if one is careful.

FFRP Advice for Col du Somport

The FFRP guide says that one should catch a bus from Accous to the top of the Col du Somport. Is this REALLY necessary or can one WALK if one is careful? Also is the route from Oloron Ste Marie to Jaca walkable in October as we haven't managed to get away earlier as planned?

How do I transfer, by foot, or bus, from GR65 to GR653?

I am on the GR65. I have heard that the passage through the Pyrenees by the "Col du Somport" is superb and would like to try it. How do I transfer from the Via Podiensis (GR 65 from Le Puy) to the Via Tolosana (GR653 from Arles)?

    Any last tips?

Just listen to your body & don't push it more than it wants to be pushed! Be open to all experiences but remember it is YOUR Camino do it as YOU want. Look after your feet & keep your socks dry. Give Santiago a hug from me when you get there. It seems a long time since Shrove Tuesday 2010...

how safe is the camino Frances for a woman on her own?

An upbeat thought - last year at our dinner table we had a young Parisian lady walking on her own. Someone asked her if she felt vulnerable, she said her friends had asked the same question. She told them firmly NO! She explained - I live in an appartment complex which houses 5,000 (yes five...

how safe is the camino Frances for a woman on her own?

When walking with my husband in 2003 we met a Canadian on her own who walked with us from Los Arcos to O'Cebreiro. Between Triacastela and Sarria we were joined by a Brazilian lady who asked for protection as she had just found out her walking companion was a murderer! We calmed her down and...
