4 pm Bus from Santiago Airport to Lugo

Time of past OR future Camino
Sarria to Santiago 2014 September 02/09
Hi all
Newbie here! Hope you can help me with my query:
I am landing in Santiago Airport at 3.35pm (I'll be collecting a checked bag).
Is there any chance I will make the 4pm bus to Lugo?
If I make it I will be able to get the 6.35pm bus from Lugo to Sarria.
Is there only one company going to Lugo?
I'm going during first week of September this year.
Many thanks & buen camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Well, the best answer to your query is that you may have the chance to make it...or you may not. That depends on the landing and the baggage delivery. I see a 4:10 pm bus with Freire (as far as I know, the only company that stops at the airport), so you have a good possibility. But schedules can differ according to the day.
http://www.empresafreire.com/html/ingles/seccion3a.php when you try this webpage, indicate Labacolla (airport). Anyway, you pay to the driver.
Take notice that Monbus http://www.monbus.es/es/rutas-puntos-de-venta/123/viajar-a-sarria/ has apparently a direct service, from Compostela (bus terminal) to Sarriá, (18:00-20:35 hs). This may be a more relaxed way to Sarriá. Again, confirm according to your dates.
There may be more options in Compostela terminal. Many things requires deciding on the spot (there will be a lot of improvisations in your Camino!)

Here is Santiago bus station
http://www.tussa.org/web/interior.php?txt=arbore_web6&lg=cas

All of the bus operators are listed on the bus station site.

As Felipe has pointed out Empresa Freire operates buses on the direct route from Santiago to Lugo and is the only bus that stops at the airport.

Monbus travels from the bus station to Monforte de Lemos and then onward to Sarria and may be your best option. Take the Empresa Freire bus from the airport to the bus station.

Thank you for your replies; that bus from Santiago bus station seems the simplest option.

If you choose this option, and you have some time until the bus departure, you can walk 5 min by rúa (street) de Casal, present your respects to the pilgrim's statue at Praza da Paz, and relax some time in the adjacent and pleasant park, instead of waiting in a plain and boring bus terminal :)

Sounds like great advice; Bus stations around the world are not the most interesting places.

L, guessing from your flight time you're on the Aer Lingus flight from Dublin? I've gotten the 4 pm bus to Lugo in 2012 and earlier this year. In 2012 I had checked baggage to wait for and this year just my backpack as cabin baggage. Made the bus ok both times BUT the flight landed on time on each occasion. If you make the 4 pm bus, it actually 1st goes back into the bus depot in Santiago before then heading to Lugo. You'll be in plenty of time in Lugo to get your onward bus to Sarria although on each occasion I've spent the night in Lugo and in 2012 got a bus at about 8.30 am next morning into Sarria and this year a train at about 8.55 am in Lugo to Ponferrada. Next week I'll be repeating this but getting the train as far as either Leon or Sahagun.

Yes; that's my flight. I'm not sure what to do now?
I guess it would great to have a quick peek at Santiago before I leave on the bus to Sarria & I would much prefer a direct bus.
I'm decided: I'll take the direct service to Sarria.
Many thanks for your kind replies. I'm much obliged to this forum.

Hi all - first time poster and was about to post same question! Lucky I searched first :)

I fly out next week via Dublin and so also land at 15.35pm on Thursday 11 September.

I am confused though - Empresa Freire (http://www.empresafreire.com/html/ingles/seccion3a.php) does not seem to be listed at all as departing from Santiago Airport, or is Labacolla Airport (SCQ) one and the same? Hopefully!

If so, my plan is to ideally land on time 15.35, collect my bag, run to bus stop for 4.10pm to Lugo (according to http://www.empresafreire.com/html/ingles/seccion3a.php) (presume this is right outside airport?)

Then when I get to Lugo at c.18.05 I think I can take a Monbus at 18.35 to Sarria? No English translation but taken from http://www.monbus.es/es/rutas-puntos-de-venta/123/viajar-a-sarria/

Do you pay the driver in both cases?

Many thanks.

I think your time appreciation is a bit tight for getting from the plane to the bus.

There is Monbus bus from Santiago bus station to Sarria via Monforte de Lemos leaving 1800. Empresa Freire operates every half hour from the airport to the bus station with the last bus that will work for you leaving 1730 (even if that gives only 10 minutes to find the Monbus bus).

See Empresa Freire customer service page for ticket options.
http://www.empresafreire.com/html/ingles/seccion6.php

Note the SCQ website has a map showing where the bus loads.

1905 Sarria

Empresa Freire connects Santiago to Lugo and stops enroute at the Santiago Airport. Monbus connects Lugo to Sarria. The transfer point is the Lugo bus station.

Renfe provides service to Sarria on trains running between Monforte de Lemos and Betanzos-Infesta. These trains originate in Madrid, Barcelona, etc and terminate in A Coruña or Ferrol. If you plan to get from Santiago to Sarria ... use the bus.

Sometimes it is more time efficient to travel to Sarria with Monbus from Santiago bus station via Monforte de Lemos. Take Empresa Freire bus from Santiago Labcolla airport to Santiago bus station.

Well. I landed late last Tuesday and the 410 was full. So I shared a taxi into the bus station (21€) and managed to get the 5pm bus to Lugo. I had a welcone break in Lugo and got the 8pm bus to sarria.
If you are able to find others to share the taxi to Sarria was 130€ for three people.
My final day tomorrow! Will miss el Camino.

Hi all - thanks for taking the time to respond. I plan to pay it forward when I come back!

I feel somewhat less pressured now - I booked my first hostel in Sarria and the owner said as long as I'm there by 11pm (closing time) I'll have a roof over my head!

So all going to plan I will try make the 4.10pm to Lugo via Empresa Freire, then on to Sarria via Monbus at 6.35pm.

Failing that I will take whariwharangi's sage advice and go to Santiago bus station at 4.30/5.00pm via Empresa Freire, arriving in good time for the 6pm via Monbus to Sarria.

The second option seems slightly less stressful - but significant time saving in that first option gets me there 7.10pm. Second option 8.45pm.

Thank you for the effort you put into this post.

Can I ask though - you say "There is Monbus bus from Santiago bus station to Sarria via Monforte de Lemos leaving 1800" - I've looked at the website though and only see Santiago Bus Station to Sarria - no mention of Monforte de Lemos. Do you mean the end point for the listed bus will be Monforte de Lemos, but that it stops in Sarria? Thanks! The bus I do see also leaves at 1800

When you get the schedule, click on Ver. A popup will show you the itinerary. It goes to Monforte then Sarria.

I have not traveled from Santiago to Sarria.

I don't know what the signboard on the bus will say or even the name on the side of the bus ... the website indicates the actual service provider is Empresa Monforte, Monbus being a consortium of several bus companies.

Buy your ticket at the station and the information about the departure gate will (usually) be on the ticket. If the signs are not clear ... ask the bus driver before boarding.

I mention the bit about the bus travelling via Monforte de Lemos because that might be what the destination board says ... and the bus from Monforte de Lemos goes on to Lugo with Sarria being naught but a stop on the way ... so it might say 'Lugo'.

I am finding not all the Empresa Freire buses to Lugo stop at the Airport. There is a 1700 bus by Empresa Freire to Lugo from Santiago bus station.
