Less highway walking from Campomanes to Ujo

If you've walked the Camino del Salvador, you may remember that from Campomanes, through Pola de Lena, and on to Ujo (total of about 13 kms), it's a long slog on the side of some busy highways. Sometimes the shoulder is narrow or non-existent.

I've just read in one of the main Spanish forums that recent improvements have taken the Camino off the national highway at Campomanes, leaving only 4 of those 13 kms on the highway. The description I read of the change is slightly confusing, but I think there's now a detour that takes you in Campomanes towards the RENFE (train) station. As soon as you pass the bridge over the river, on the left, there is a turn-off that takes you right to the absolutely stunning pre-romanesque ermita of Santa Cristina de Lena. When I walked the Salvador, I had the misfortune of passing Santa Cristina on a Monday, so it was not open for a visit. I will NOT make that mistake this summer!
