Luggage Storage

Hi everyone, hoping someone can help me with this query. Apart from out backpacks we will be taking an extra bag with clothes, shoes ect for a few days sightseeing in France. Our plans are to walk from St Jean Pied de Port to Finisterre. I have read on the forum that it can be quite expensive to have our luggage forwarded across countries. We can't forwarded directly to our accommodation in France as we will be flying to Madrid before going onto France. Can you please advise what our options are for getting our luggage to Santiago?
Many Thanks
Diane

Hi Diane, I am confused and not sure where you're flying into, in the first place. If you are initially flying into Madrid and want to store your suitcase in Santiago, you can use Ivar's luggage storage. You could just mail the suitcase from Madrid to Santiago. If you're flying into Paris and taking the train with your suitcase to SJPP, you could perhaps forward the suitcase through jacotrans to Pamplona, and then mail it from there. If I'm totally off base about what you're asking, I apologize and perhaps someone else can give you some ideas. Pennie

Well, I have a similar question. Maybe I can be clear: how much will it cost (approximately) to send a duffel bag from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela? What is the best way to do so for a 30+ day storage?

Hi Diane, There are a number of good threads about shipping luggage ahead. You probably don't know that we can search old threads on the forum. It's like doing a regular Google search. Up in the right hand corner area there's a little spyglass/magnifing lense. Try typing "luggage shipping paris to santiago" or other combinations you come up with. I just did it and there are a number of different threads on this subject. Hope this helps. Pennie

Sorry for the confusion, we will be flying into Paris

Keldi,

Consider this possibility. Carry the luggage with you to SJPdP. Contact Express Bourricot to facilitate shipping it from SJPdP directly to Santiago. Store it in Santiago via Ivar's service. Click the links to see further details.

Bon Voyage and Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
From SJPP, sending things from the post office also works great.

By the way, the french postal system seems to have a rule that if you are sending suitcases, you need to have it wrapped. Could be in plastic or in card board. The post office usually will help you tape it all together... Since it is an internationals shipment, I am pretty sure that the price for sending it from Paris or from SJPP is the same.

I hope this helps,
Ivar

Thankyou all for your feedback, will certainly look into the options available and will have our bag delivered to Ivar's service when we arrive in SJPP (we have already paid to take the extra bag on our flight from Paris to Biarritz).
