Why should one stay at albergues on the Camino de Santiago?

Accommodation on the Camino de Santiago

The question was:

Why do you stay in albergues?

Is it for the price? Is it because you like the bunks? Snoring? Shared bathrooms? Is it for the comradeship of other pilgrims? Penitence for past sins? I am curious why some people actually choose to stay in albergues even when they can easily afford other type accommodations.

I think it is for the simple reason that no one is an island

Its because you live the life of a true peregrino, in limitations. Its so much better to say at the albergues municipal.

Some people seem to NEED to suffer to feel they have gotten the “full camino experience”. Not being a Christian, I did not need to invent suffering to feel I got the full measure from my journey. I could afford a cheap hotel room, so I chose to spend most of my nights in private rooms. I felt that since I COULD afford a room, it was selfish of me to take a bed in an albergue away from someone who perhaps could not afford anything else.

Hola amigos. Pues nosotros creemos que los albergues son una opción como otra cualquiera en el Camino.
