What type of Laundry Soap did you use on the Camino de Santiago?

Wash Clothes on the Camino de Santiago

The question was:

What kind of laundry soap do people here use while on the Camino? I will be walking the Camino Portuguese in September. It will be my first time walking the Camino and my first time backpacking.

In March I met a young backpacker in Athens who had walked the Camino. He was giving me some tips, one of which was NOT to bring liquid laundry soap. I just wanted to see what experienced people have found most successful on the Camino.

Did your Camino fail or exceed your expectations?

Expectations of the Camino de Santiago

The question was:

Did your Camino fail to meet your expectations? If so why? The good, the bad, the ugly.

Or…Did your Camino exced your expectations? If so why? The good, the bad, the ugly.

All views are welcome but please discuss your experience not other henceforth nameless bloggers. (Please it’s time to let u know who rest in peace.)

Some of us (like me) really want to prepare in all ways because when I make my Camino, it will probably be a once in a lifetime experience (unless I meet some wealthy Catholic prince or hit the lottery!  )

Can we travel to Sarria the same day we arrive in Santiago de Compostela?

The question was:

Just looking for some advice on best course of action for starting our walk. We arrive in Santiago via Madrid at 21.40 on a Saturday night with a view to starting or walk in Sarria – is it best to go straight to Sarria or stay in Santiago for one night and bus it the next day, If we do bus it and begin walk immediately from Sarria how is it possible to transfer luggage to our next stop if we have not spent the night in Sarria? Also travelling in late Aug and was thinking of booking first and last nights accommodation and doing the rest as we go – is this risky at this time of the year.

What was the SINGLE smartest “unexpected” item you included in your backpack?

Earplugs for the Camino de Santiago

The question was:

OK peregrinos, this first-time pilgrim (leaving SJPdP on May 19) hopes to learn from your experience. What was the SINGLE smartest “unexpected” item you included in your backpack? Keep it to one item, please, and (may I suggest?) skip the basics. I hoping for examples of items I would NEVER have considered taking! Maybe even little “luxury” items that weigh essentially nothing but that greatly enhanced your Camino experience. Be creative, now!
