Best way to get from Santiago de Compostela to Madrid

The question was:

Hi, I’m not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but I can’t seem to find any details which surprises me because I would have thought there would be a few people going from Santiago de Compostela to Madrid (which makes me think I am missing it :? )

I have a flight booked from Madrid to Paris which leaves Madrid at 5.00pm on a Saturday. My question is what is the best way to get to the Marid airport from Santiago de Compostela?

  1. it’s fine…it’s probably very crowded though, just so you know…it was super jam packed when i was on it.

  2. I took a morning (9:30ish) train to Madrid after spending the night in Santiago. Took about 5 hours. The scenery was spectacular. I spent most of the time in the snack car, looking out the windows. If you have the time, spend a couple of days in Madrid, sightseeing, shopping, re-entering the “real world” after the Camino. I highly recommend the basement of El Corte Ingles – I think I ate 3 meals there one day. It was air conditioned, a plus in August.
