Rocky Section on the Descent into Molinaseca

Rocky Section on the Descent into Molinaseca

Interestingly, when I walked it I didn’t see a single vehicle travelling in either direction on the sections of the road I could see from time to time from Cruz de Ferro down.

Very little road traffic indeed until after Lavacolla. I got hopelessly lost here - well it was very early morning and dark and there was absolutely not another person on the track- so I ended up going down the road into Santiago de Compostela. There was a good deal of traffic here heading for the airport, and given the rain and dark things were a bit dicey.

I wonder whether or not anyone else has struck a general ansence of traffic in winter?

@Preshadon As I reported above I have both cycled and walked this section. I would strongly advise against walking down the paved road. It has very narrow or non-existing shoulders so if you are walking you are walking on the road. With the countless number of sharp bends/corners on the section between Cruz de Ferro & Molinaseca many drivers "cut the corners" such that the road visibility can be less than 50 metres.
So if a pilgrim is unable to walk the Camino trail my advice is to take a taxi!!

Hardest section of the CF by far for me :(
Could barely walk when I got to the bottom.
(my feet are not too good)
We'll definitely break the descent by staying in Acebo this year.........
Or as Mike said, get a taxi !:eek::eek:
Shhhhhhh

Hopefully not ;)
I like the idea of staying in Acebo. Great views and a lovely village.

or flag down a car on its way down.
Every time I drive this road I end up with a carload of busted pilgrims (or their packs) by the time I´m halfway down.

Tough on the knees! We had to keep our eyes focused on the ground for fear of stumbling. But I admired the group of Cyclists who did not dismount and went past us through the difficult rocky terrain.
I on the other hand, FEARED the group of cyclists who did not dismount and went past us through the difficult rocky terrain, screaming at us to get out of the way (when there really was nowhere to go!) and literally running into people. Beyond inconsiderate, and very dangerous.

Unfortunate. That was not my experience.
