March 21 Valcarlos to Roncesvalles

Thick fog and steep climb but we made it!
Lovely photo! I walked that way last year at the end of September. There were few people, so it was a peaceful start to the camino and very beautiful. I might even say I prefer it to the other route.

I'd argue that the first day was my favorite day...we had a beautiful sunny day. We started late out of SJPP as a friend was taking a train that arrived around 8:45. We set out at 9:15 and made our hike up. we stopped at Orisson for a nice break where we grabbed a sandwich and enjoyed two beers. Then we headed on to Roncevalles. The views were excellent. The international friends we met were great. Roncevalles was nice...we were lucky and were on the top floor. Showered up, headed across the street to grab a meal and some (a lot) of Sangrias...just a great day.

I like the mountain stages I guess as my second favorite day was the hike from Astorga to el Acebo...such an awesome day. O'Cebreiro day was probably third...the views of the Pyrenees and the mountains of Spain are just fantastic.

I would love to own an albuergue on the Camino and my first choice would be Foncebadon. I am looking forward to getting back someday soon

Michelle this is such a beautiful photo. I am hoping to get your permission to use this photo in a slideshow during a choral concert of Joby Talbot's "Path of Miracles." It is a beautiful piece of music that describes an experience of travelling the Camino.
