So many people skipped Samos and take the alternate route. To me that is a huge mistake and a wasted opportunity to see one of the most spectacular buildings they'll ever get a chance to see with such incredible history. I believe the alternate route offers some very nice villages, but so does this route (San Cristobal del Real blew my mind!) AND add to that the chance to visit this Monastery. I left Triacastela with enough time to ensure I could get to Samos by 10:00 am, the time for one of their guided visits. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Last year I yust walked from Triacastela to Samos I slept across the street of the Monastery. We also did a guided tour in de Monastery, we loved all the wall paintings in one of the corridors.
It was well wearth the visit.

I also took the alternate route to see the monastery in the pouring rain too. Guide did the tour in Spanish, didn't get an English translation either but it was still worth walking around and seeing it.

@Peter Fransiscus I also slept across from the monastery. The bar provided comfortable and plain accommodation and good food. Will do it again this year.
