Yes this brings back less than happy memories. I came upon this sight (on my bike) and took a long hard look at it. Then I found (or was directed to) an over grown track the detoured around these steps. But I still had to climb up the other side - no detour this time. Note to cyclists - from Cirauqui follow the sealed road out of town (I think its sign-posted to Estella/Pamplona/Logrono) and turn onto the N111 (not the A12 - cyclists not permitted on autoways/motorways). Great photo!

Thanks for posting this photo, this section holds a special memory for me. .... this is the exact spot I injured my knee and was forced to leave the Camino this past October. IMHO: In the best of light and weather combined with weigh of a backpack and other scrambling pilgrims, this section is prime for renovation or bypass.

@mlhhome Whilst I fully understand your position; given the historical nature of the bridge I strongly doubt it would be possible to renovate the bridge itself, but it may be possible to repair/renovate the approaches. As an alternative I suggest signs be posted a 100/200 metres before the bridge advising that the trail ahead may be unsuitable for those with mobility issues and then indicate the alternative route. From memory the alternative is to follow turn right (north) in the village and then follow the N111 route for about 1km (until you come to a small park) and then resume following the Camino via the overpass. Cheers

I remember this so well ... short legs made it a challenge !!! Still smile when I think of the lady behind me pushing on my butt - almost did a "face plant" into the next stair.
