I've been making pouches and sacks, mostly for marine activities, I use materials common to backpacks, tents, rain gear, and such.
Every seam becomes moisture access points because all these modern materials are not self-healing like natural fabric, once the needle goes in, the hole stays forever. To overcome that issue, the common practice is to tape the seams after sewing. For that one uses tape and glue. Not sure if the glue by itself would work for the patches but for sure a few stitches and the tape the area of the stitches
