Portomarin 12th Century church-castle relocated in 1960's

Unfortunately, I didn't take the time to go visit this beautiful church when I went through Portomarin and could kick myself for missing it. Do you know the reason the church was relocated or moved?
 
Unfortunately, I didn't take the time to go visit this beautiful church when I went through Portomarin and could kick myself for missing it. Do you know the reason the church was relocated or moved?
Put in a dam and flooded below. You can see old foundations to the west of the bridge. Also note 2nd old bridge that was too low. Inside church pretty basic, but note was also built as Templar fortress with the 4 corners as defensive positions. Tough to be a pilgrim back then!
