@BamaVol I don't think he was raising money. I think that this was just the way he chose to carry his gear. I believe that he was traveling from a far distance, France maybe.

I agree with she seeks it would be very cumbersome especially from St Jean Pied and onward. Nevertheless each to his own. Much the same with donkeys on the Camino twice saw them this year and onward they went cause no one would accommodate them. Practicality is the norm on the Camino.
