Bike transfer

Does anyone know of a service that would transfer bike and rider from Santiago back to the start in France (or vice versa), as an alternative to train and/or bus?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Bike Hire companies use DPD to transfer bikes within Iberia so they should be able to get it to France. Can't member the name of local Spanish subsidiary (https://www.seur.com/en/) but they deliver to @ivar all the time.

Possibly a better option is Correos the Spanish postal service. They have bike boxes in their office in Santiago and do ship within mainland Europe (but not the UK now). Lots of people use that office to ship their bikes back to wherever.

You can then take the train back at connect at the other end.

PS As I've been looking at this sort of issue for a few years, it's also a bit of a challenge to see what options there might be. Another one I hadn't checked but which looks possible is to fly from SCQ to BIQ and then take the train for the last few miles. You change at CDQ and it may even be cheaper than using Correos/Train/DPD

I’m planning on cycling only part of the Camino - from Burgos to Santiago, and I have discovered that I can take my bike on the train between these two cities. I’ll be in Spain with my campervan so will leave that in Burgos and then get the train back to pick it up. That will be a lot easier than working out the logistics of getting the bike all the way back from Santiago to France!

I'm going to assume you haven't used the Renfe trains with a bike before so apologies if you have.

You an only take an assembled bike on the slow lines - Regional Express / Media Distancia. If you want to use the fast lines then the bike has to be disassembled and in a carrier that won't restrict other passengers.

The RE/MD trains tend to be 3 car with the wheelchair/bikes one in the middle with a platform level entry. You need a separate ticket for you and the bike (€3). The lines map for RE/MD is below and it looks like you'll have a convolute way back to Burgos.

One of the frustrations of using Renfe to move across Spain with a bike is that sometimes the RE/MD trains are 1 a day or don't match up with your connections so you could find yourself stranded overnight at a transit point. Luckily you have alternative transport with you.

I know you 'ruled' out bus - however, I used ALSA to get back to Bilbao after Norte with my bike - I had to take off front wheel and then 'clingfilm' the whole outfit together before putting it into the luggage bay. There was a discount available as a pilgrim - it wasn't too expensive and while long journey much quicker than the route down! There is an ALSA bus service to Burgos. Buen Camino

Another option. Thanks to you too.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
