If you are planning to do the CPI, be aware that in Santa Marta de Penaguião there's a path blocked by plants that it's quite difficult to pass. Also there's some signs covered by the plants. (41.23373° N, 7.76664° W)

The alternative is to go by the N2 road.
Contact the tourism's office for details.

Also the albergue in Bertrelo is occupied and you should contract them first for availability.

The Caminho is beautiful BTW!!!!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
So i stayed at:

Albergue de Almargem, Albergue de Ribolhos, (Moura Morta was closed), Complexo desportivo de Lamego, Bertrelo (may not be available), Albergue Parada de Aguiar.

All very nice places, clean, cheap, kitchen, and very nice people welcoming you.

I stopped in Chaves but will continue asap.

Bom caminho!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Are there any eating options in Almargem or should we bring food from Viseu to cook at the albergue?
There is a place for meals. Ask the presidente da junta de freguesia when he open the albergue. I don't know if they make vegetarian food.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-

We spoke to him on the phone but he didn’t offer meals. He said there was a mini-mercado but we’ll just bring food from Viseu to be safe.

On Friday where do you think you are?
Looks like Lamego. Are you in the area?

On Friday and Saturday I will be in Viseu.
I'll water mine in the walnut, cherry and plum trees.

There's a woman that can make you dinner and deliver in the Albergue. (Info by the host from Museum of Linen)
There's a small cafe nearby but for drinks and cafe. I don't know about a mini market.
There's a fountain. And the tap water is also good.
I carried my meal from viseu and cooked in the Albergue's kitchen.

Next, when to Ribolhos, you can supply in Moēs (supermarkets), also a good alternative to sleep.

INAUGURATION OF THE REQUALIFICATION OF THE CORETO DE VILA MEÃ
Today, May 15, 2022, the requalification work of the Bandstand in Vila Meã was inaugurated with the presence of the Hon. Mr President of the Municipality of Castro Daire, Dr. Paulo Almeida, from Mr. Vice President of the Chamber, Dr. Luís Lemos, from the President of the Parish Council of Moledo, Alexandre Pereira, Many people and friends.
These works, in addition to the rehabilitation of the space, allowed it to be transformed into a hostel for pilgrims, since it is part of the Portuguese Inner Way of Santiago.
It was in a festive atmosphere and a lot of conviviality that another step in the development of our Parish was marked.
Well done everyone!

Nice!

I met the cafe owner next to this Albergue (same owner) and it's a good option if you are leaving from Viseu and Almargem is a short walk.

@nmont, can you please tell us your experience between Lamego and the Douro River? Last year we walked the Torres and this part was spectacular. The CPI is a different route (even though both meet up at the river). According to Gronze, there used to be a trail along a tributary river (Rio Varosa) for part of it but now that has been blocked off and the alternative is the N2 highway. One of the tracks we have is almost entirely on the N2 from Lamego to the Douro (possibly a cyclist?).

We are wondering if we should just re-walk the Torres stage instead.

OK, so I lost myself at some point following the arrows down a grapevines and end up in the river. Looking at my GPS I saw that I had to get to the other side of the bridge that i was seeing 200m ahead) so I adventure myself into the woods, first on the left margin of the river (not recommended, too wild) and then on the right side. Right side margin is also wild but with ease you can do it and finish in the right side of the bridge. From there until Regua is a easy way.

If you are looking for some adventure, walking in the river, climbing stones and then going up the margin to the end of the bridge... Be my guest! Otherwise be sure to find the right path to the bridge.

Wow, you must have descended too early! I recognise the rocks from your photos as we could clearly see them from the bridge. Glad you found your way in the end!

You're right. Once near the river I decided to explore a bit and then it was too late to go back.

I've been following your posts and would like to thank you for that. Curious that you did the Costa Vicentina and then this. I'll start the Alentejo coast in two weeks.

Did you had any trouble passing the blockage path? is it clean now? Or maybe you took the N2…?

Neither! In Conceiro there was some confusion as our GPS tracks went towards the point you marked but the arrows went a different way. After discussion with some animated locals we followed the arrows, which led us to a road west of the blocked path and past the Quinta da Portela hotel to arrive at the albergue from the southwest, rather than northeast.

Before the blocked path, at this point (41.2306506, -7.7719593), arrows point left into the village. Follow them rather than turning right (even if your GPS tracks turn right) and you will avoid the blocked path. In the village, there’s a right turn that descends to a road (not the N2) near Solar Quinta da Portela. Keep following arrows, passing the quinta, and ascend to the albergue.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Problem solved. Indeed I remember following the arrows and at some point I went back into the GPS track as from past experience from the Camino central I choose the arrows instead the GPS and led me to the national road for a couple of km and then into different villages, way more urban scenes...Locals explained that alternative routes are made as commercial purpose.

Well, walking and learning.

Bom caminho!
