Going on my first (Primitivo) in June 2022
Starting my first Camino on Tuesday! Would love to hear any particular recommendations for places to eat along the Primitivo, as the food is always my favourite part of travel...

I am not much of a meat eater, but the hamburger that I had in Feudo Real in Grado was amazing — maybe that’s because I was starved for protein after the walk, who knows. They have fancier items, and I believe they use only meat they have produced themselves.

Not a place that vegetarians would like, though.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Bueno Camino @bswanson, food is a nice way to get to know other cultures, and in particular de comunal dinners in the albergues sounds like a wonderful way to meet other pilgrims (I guess food is secondary)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I agree. But it sure is nice when the food is good!

Not sure if anyone likes an occasional splurge, but there is a very foodie restaurant about 2 seconds from the Lugo albergue. Name is Paprica. I went to the albergue to see if a friend had arrived and she hadn’t. So I just went into the restaurant and spent several hours there in a nice outdoor patio. I was treated just fine even in my hiking clothes. I got one of their menús, and it was quite yummy. I was glad I had walked around the perimeter of the walls before lunch, because after lunch I just felt like going to sit in the plaza, which is a great spot for people watching on a full stomach.

On both my Primitivos (2014 and 2019), I've enjoyed Bar Restaurante Manaia Sea Ela in A Fonsagrada. I've had late lunch, dinner and breakfast there at various times. Always lots of locals there. And they are open early.

The last time, in October 2019 I was thrilled to find they were still going strong. While having dinner there we checked the opening time (6.45am – yeah) - the following morning we were there hot on the heels (literally) of the lovely senora who opened up.

The Señora recognised us from the night before and gave us a big smile. As she unlocked the door, we followed her in and helped her put out the bar stools and chairs. She quickly made our two coffees, added two small pieces of cake, and wouldn’t take any money from us. So kind! Lovely way to start the day.

Especially on a sunny day! Bliss.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Vanesa in Berducedo and casa Manolo in Santiago. The best meals on Primitivo way (good also the communitarian dinner in Bodenaya).

This was one of my favorite places ever! The women who owned it were fabulous. They sponsored local Galego cultural & music groups. They closed, retired, during the pandemic.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Do you have a budget or preferred cusine? There is a big variety of food and restaurants in the larger towns, less so in the small places

I had a look at Paprika reviews and it looks like a fancy restaurant, a little expensive, with a outdoor patio by the wall. Now I understand your "I was treated just fine even in my hiking clothes" :)

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
It's a bit off the beaten track, about 10km before Lugo there's an amazing Albergue, Rectoral de Romeán, gorgeous place, beautiful remote setting and the owner prepared me a tasty 3 course meal as soon as I arrived, all fresh food from the garden! 👌

On the cheaper side ideally, and I'm most interested in authentic local cuisine or anyone making good use of local ingredients :)

Casa Pachon, Salas. Maybe.
I was there in 2011 and it was sensational. But that was a long time ago, so just checked Tripadvisor to see if it's still there. Most recent review not so good, but it wouldn't deter me from going back.
We were hungry and unsuspecting and didn't realise that we would keep being brought food until we protested - and then we were given shots of the local hooch.. We didn't pace ourselves and ate far too much, especially of the soup and crispy grilled sardines - and that was all before the platters of pasta in cheese sauce arrived.. (we asked for a non-meat option).
The problem was that we were heading for Bodenya that evening and there's 400m of elevation to tackle before you get there.. it was painfully slow, laboured, meandering progress. One of our party just went straight to bed when we arrived. And later the rest of us sat quietly at the Bodenya communal meal. Sitting was all we were able to do.

Two days before A Fonsagrada, a farmer told us we HAD to have pulpo as soon as we got into Galicia. He recommended this place, and it was wonderful. Full of locals and not too expensive. Get a bottle of their white Ribeiro to go with it…..
