Looking at flight options from Santiago to London around 4th July. Flights earlier in the day are really expensive, 330+ Euros. I have looked at other options, flying out of Madrid,..., but the cost is still about the same. Any tips for an inexpensive way home will be appreciated.

Basic price with Vueling on 5th July - SCQ to LGW is currently EUR 49.99 (evening flight @ 18:10)

Or there is a flight from La Coruna to LGW (easily accessible from Santiago) on 4th at 16:35 for EUR 64.99 basic price.

Is there not a Ryanair flight for 27 Euro?

Bearing in mind that Ryanair's main competitor, Easy Jet, are cutting 11,000 European flights this summer - as @chinacat suggested "let the train take the strain".

I know I would, either that or look at long distance coaches.

Did you get that from Google translate?? 😄
My Daughter read Medieval History at Aberystwyth and I have her hand written "Dummies Guide to Speaking Welsh" journal on my shelves which contains all sorts of Welsh expressions - none of which I can pronounce and some of which are extremely rude because, you know, students!
Didn't know Google Translate worked in Welsh - I usually confine myself to the bottom half of the alphabet: French, German, Italian and drifting into Spanish.

I see relatively little risk in buying a very cheap fare even given potential disruption. I assume train will be quite pricey? I am a train advocate too!

That sounds worth a punt - what's the situation with getting from Stansted to London at that time?
I had a four hour delay out of Dublin once and by the time I got to Stansted (around midnight) the last train had gone but I managed to hitch a lift down to Kent and then get a taxi (which Ryanair refused to pay for)

Buses run through night!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I was thinking of the inconvenience caused by a cancellation rather than the lost of the ticket cost. Mind there are worse places to be stuck in than SCQ!

Not for me they didn't - I needed to get to Canterbury and the next bus was IIRC about 7am! (mind you it was 2005ish)
Ha ha yes of course buses not running to every part of the country but a €50 euro fare warrants
a bit of rough sleeping and maybe finding a all night bar imho!

I need to arrive in London by late afternoon. Otherwise I have to get a hotel room either near the airport, or in London, which negates any cost savings by catching a late flight.

Vueling , I used that early evening flight to London Gatwick in May.
I had reached Santiago earlier than anticipated and I was able to change my booking for a flight two days earlier. No extra cost.
Train services from Gatwick usually good but we currently have a plague of train strikes that started yesterday and could continue for months.
There may well be coach travel available from Gatwick to Central London.

Are you travelling beyond London within the UK?
Or is London a ‘stopover’ en route to another part of the world?

If within UK, you could perhaps get a night bus to your destination … then you wouldn’t need a hotel room.

If you’re just passing through London, on an international journey, you could probably sleep in the airport upon your arrival. With all the cancelled flights at the moment, you would probably just be one among hundreds of other travellers!!

Have you looked for flights from Porto, as Ivar suggested?

We once flew Santiago to Malaga and then back to the UK.
Much cheaper than a direct flight at that time.
