Luggage Transport: BlaBla Car

Just a quick question about BlaBla car.

Has anyone used it for luggage transport only. Getting an unaccompanied bag dropped off?

Not sure how that would work - are you saying asking the driver to take luggage instead of you? I’d say it depends on the driver, but I’d guess they’d be suspicious of what you were having them transport! Plus you’d have to have a pretty secure place for drop-off - usually, BlaBlaCar folks drop passeNgers off at a generic, centrally located place like a bus/rail stop or similar.

I have offered blabla rides in the past and have come across 2 requests, both relating to motorcycle parts/accessories! When I looked up on Google, this seems more common than I thought. People who bought fragile items seem to think that Blabla is safer than professional courier company. I turned both requests down merely because I was nowhere near where the pick up/delivery addresses were, they were a good 1.5h detour.

As someone has mentioned here, I could drop a passenger at motorway services or supermarket car park and they can take bus/taxi/another blabla, but not parcel.

So, to answer the OP, you can search the app and if there is a suitable ride, ask the driver.

PS: the other issue is driver reliability. I have had people cancelled their rides with me on the day, because their previous blabla driver has cancelled the journey! And yes, in France and Spain, public transport has appeared to be very limited and too expensive for a lot of people that they have resorted to getting a chain of Blabla rides to travel. So, personally if I was getting a Blabla as passenger, I would only do so if I have no time constraint and not bothered about delays/cancellations.

Thanks for the comments. I was throwing the question out there as a) I'll be doing some sections which are more that 60km which is the logistics limit of the carriers and b) I'm not following the normal pilgrim route on other sections.

Wanted to hear about how others might have solved the "off-piste" question - if there are examples. BlaBla might not be the solution but I'll have a check anyway.

I have a back-up which is to get a taxi to do it on the days I might want not to carry it myself.

Depending on where you are walking you may be able to post items to yourself. There needs to be a post office at each end, obviously.

I've just used Blabla car to travel from Burgos to Santander. Much easier and cheaper than regular transport and a lovely driver. I would think that the problem with using Blabla car for your rucksack would be where it could be left; if your next auberge is en route, it may not be open when the driver passes or it may not be on their direct route that they are offering. I was very lucky as our driver offered to detour for myself and my grandson, so instead of being left at the bus station, she took us straight to the airport.

Similar issue with blabla cancelling for one of our group twice in a row 2 different folks, won't depend on them.

Why would you consider this when there are numerous companies providing luggage transport on the Camino?
