Levante from Valencia

HI all,

I am currently in Valencia for a couple of months (non camino) and am think of doing VDLP from mid to late September and I know it will be challenging as it will be short walks at the start due heat but then some really long days as I get further north.

I am going to do a few walks in the next few days to test my fitness levels. Maybe 3...... - a 20km, a 30km and a 40km. I have been researching the Levante and it seems like there are a range of lengths that will allow me to work with this. Basic Plan is to walk each day and then get train or bus back to VLC same day.

Looking at a few threads, places such as Silla, Algemesi and Xativa seem to fit the bill...if anyone has any thoughts or ideas to supplement my thinking would love to hear them! More countryside and less tarmac is my preference!! Thank you!

Don't miss Almansa (approx. 4 day walk out of Valencia). One of my all time favorite towns on any Camino. Fantastic Castle and local scene.

@LT beat me to it — if you don’t like walking on asphalt, you won’t like walking from Valencia to Xátiva. It’s almost exclusively on asphalt. But here is a great guide to the Levante made by the Valencia Amigos Association.

A forum member recently walked from Valencia to Monteagudo de las Salinas, where it connected with the “main” Ruta de la Lana. This route also has a good online guide. Take a look at his reports.

The Valencia Amigos Association is very active and very helpful. You might want to stop by and see if they have anything going on, like an arrow-painting-party or something. Much more fun way to improve your Spanish! Their address and hours open to the public are at the bottom of the page I linked you to.

Happy to reconfirm that the amigos in Valencia are tremendously helpful. I’ve got their Levante guide (in Spanish) and a selection of other items from their shop on their way.
