Too many and too often!
The first of two annual pilgrimages to Javier takes place this weekend. The birthplace of Francisco de Javier - probably better known in the English-speaking world as Francis Xavier, one of the founders of the Jesuit order. This article explains that the pilgrimage is a major event locally and demands a lot of support by local authorities and volunteers. One of many shorter local pilgrimages traditionally held across Spain.

Javier is a lovely place and a detour on the Camino Aragones. There was a HosVol Encuentro for hospitaleros there in 2018 that my husband attended and we detoured there for a day last summer. The castle tour has an English headset version that explains the life of Francis Xavier. There are a couple of hotels and a large youth hostel besides the Basilica and the castle. Not much else though.

We lingered in Javier for three hours on our Camino Aragones walk in 2016. We loved particularly the unique chapel above the church. Our visit there inspired us to walk the Camino Ignaciano the following year. We will be visiting Javier again in May as guests of the Province of Navarre and the Amigos of the Camino there. They are taking coordinators of the American Pilgrims on the Camino (APOC), of which I am a coodinator of the Capital Area Chapter, which includes DC, Northern Virginia and the Maryland suburbs of DC. My wife and I are so excited to be part of this special tour, especially since as a peregrino, we had limited time in the many wonderful cities, towns and villages in Navarre, always on our own, never with a local guide.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Hope you also get to see the monastery at Leyre! We visited there last year and stayed over to hear the evening service with Gregorian chanting music.

It was a hike to get up there but definitely worth it. After visiting the church, we sat outside and relaxed before moving on. Lovely.
