GR223 Camí de Cavalls

Time of past OR future Camino
started in 2012, hooked ever since.
I have a week in April and am thinking of going over to Menorca and walking part or parts of the Camí de Cavalls. I am not sure whether to stay at Maó or Cuidatella or both to do parts of this coastal walk. Just wondered if anyone has walked it in the last couple of years, if so would love to hear where you walked and accommodation options.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi laineylainey,

Menorca is a lovely place to walk
We walked the GR223 “The path of the horses” in 2013…well most of it anyway in stages
We had 2 weeks and stayed in 3 different locations, getting around by bus to the various coastal walks
Our walks were between 15-20 km with one 28km
Timber posts mark the way well

In Mao we stayed in an apartment at The Royal hotel, about 10 minutes from the centre
In port de Ciutadella it was the hotel of the same name
Then it was on to Aranals and the hotel Aquamarina

the walks from Port de C and Aranals were the most scenic……we used buses every day
I can’t remember which map we used at the time but near the end of the two weeks I found a lovely book with small scale walking maps and a fold out map
Its brilliant for local information too and with lots of scenic pictures for each stage

Annette, thank you so much for that. Can I ask what time of the year did you walk? I am also tempted to stay in 2 centres and use public transport but I have seen that the full Island bus service does not start until May and I would be going last week in April. I was thinking of stopping in Máo and Ciutadella. Does the book you bought mention possible accommodation?

HI lainey,
We were there for the last two weeks in May
I can’t see any information re accommodation in the book I mentioned, and bright sparks as we are, bought the book when we were finished walking! It’s beautiful book and I wanted to keep it as a memento as opposed to a walking guide
We just had a map back then

There are a number of walking books and guides on Amazon ….Tour, Trail and Guide book/ map and a Sunflower book guide with a map
theres also a German map there

There are tourist Offices in most of the towns with websites on Google with lots of information .
I can’t even remember getting any information back then as we just booked the flight bought a map and off we went
Re accommodation we did not book anything before going, just went into the towns and found someplace to stay
Let us know how you get on there
It’s a place we’d like to visit again
All the best
Annette

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Thank you so much for that link, very useful. Yes it is an appealing walk to be sure. I am still hoping I can walk parts of it. It seems a bit harder to plan on the north coast between Ciudatella and Cala Tirant, due to lack of local transport and accommodation for 1 night only, but apart from that there is so much to explore. I think May would be a better month to go as the local buses start up again then and it would make it easier to hop around the island.
