Good news about Camino -Ninja

This info is from a Facebook group:

"Do you remember the genius app Camino-Ninja? Well, the developer was Andy, and he sadly passed away last summer. Things were technically complicated, but very recently we were finally able to save all the wonderful data of the app and upload it into the existing app CaminoCamino. Search for it, and you will find all the albergues in this app already (and forgive us some missing translations - they will be repaired with the next update in a few days, when the app will be available in 8 (!) languages).

But not only the data of Camino Ninja, but also the app itself was genius and loved by 100,000 pilgrims last year alone. That's why we keep trying to bring this app back into the app stores.

Unfortunately Andy has not not left a manual for us... But we are almost done reverse engineering everything, and hopefully the app will be back for new downloads in a matter of some weeks.

This is the two good news I want to share with you. Spread the word!

Buen Camino!
Peter

PS: Who are we? We are Jakobsweg-Zentrale from Germany (www.jakobsweg.de), the central office for all german speaking pilgrims. From now on also slowly serving a broader audience."

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I just installed it as well and they've listed out accommodations on many of the Camino routes, as well as places to get pilgrim stamps and major attractions along the trails. Hopefully at some point they can also add in starting and ending towns and kilometer information in an easy interface like the Camino Ninja had. In any case I wish this group the best as they try to recover and offer Andy's work again. Hopefully they can work out the kinks and it can function well for a new generation of pilgrims. Thanks for sharing this good news @wayfarer !

That's great news. Andy's app was astonishingly good, one of the most practical and user-friendly of all.

It kept me on the right track for the (very short) spaces between mojones on my Ingles last April and I was delighted to be able to tell him that before his untimely passing.

Well done for keeping his flame alive.

This is excellent news! As much as I appreciate the other popular apps, I always found Camino Ninja to be the simplest and most straightforward. Andy saved me a few times from getting (too) lost. He also had some albergues listed that the other apps didn't have. Well done!

No app or website is 100% accurate in terms of opening/closing dates or a complete list of places to lay our pilgrim heads. I doubt that this comes as news to you :);). That is why I have the Buen Camino and Wise Pilgrim app. I had the Camino Ninja app but I never used it as I was so used to the other two. Also I use Gronze.com alot also. It is also impossible for the app developers to know when an albergue owner may decide to close, even for the season as it gets closer to the end of the year. I usually walk in late fall so I often will call to make sure an albergue is open.

I used Ninja for the Frances last year, and probably more for the map, distance to go, and elevation options as I did for the accommodation information. I've looked at others since Andy's sad death but haven't found one that offered that information as easily, so I'll be very happy if they get it up and running properly again!

Can the app be used offline???

Has anyone else installed it?

Thanks for picking up Andy's work, hopefully you can reverse engineer it back to an App that had the ease of use as 'Camino Ninja'🤞🍀
Keep up the good work 👍😉
I don't think that @wayfarer is involved in the project. He just posted a quotation from a Facebook page that told about the new project being undertaken by the following group

It is also impossible for the app developers to know when an albergue owner may decide to close, even for the season as it gets closer to the end of the year.
This year I added a feature to the Wise Pilgrim apps which specifically warns that “today” is very close to the scheduled open or close date.

When it comes to opening or closing a lot depends on the flow of pilgrims. More so with the opening. When it comes to closing things are a bit more predictable as taxes are going to be due (for the full month) as soon as you open the doors on the first day of a month.

I have the old Ninja app on my phone. Do I need to delete it and download the new one? Or will the old one update?

Good news! And love that it will be available in 8 languages. Now I just have to remember the name of this other app. Camino Ninja was such a great name to remember. I like using a combination of the different apps.

Sounds to me like they used another app altogether and recreated the Camino Ninja app on their existing platform. If I am correct - then you do need to delete Nina and download CaminoCamino

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

In it's current state this new app is NOT a re-creation of the Camino Ninja app. They may have used the data from Camino Ninja, but the format is not the same at all. Perhaps that will change.

I do like this feature; it’s a nice nudge to double check with the albergue. 🙏🏻
