I'd like to hear from people who have traveled the Camino with horses. Which areas are more horse friendly? What about lodging & stabling? Where have you obtained horses? & etc.

I'm planning to make my pilgrimage next summer (2014). I'd like to walk most of the way; but as a horseman myself, it would be good to work in a little horse energy. I'm thinking about the idea of riding from Santiago to Finisterre as a finish to my journey. Any ideas or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
This year as I walked I was followed by and also followed a group riding their horses. I remember coming into villages where they had corralled the horses for the evening. I don't remember where at this stage. I need to go back and check my blog. I took a couple of photographs of them and also of the places that the horses stayed in for the evening.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
I saw quite a few horseback pilgrims on CF, but only once saw horses (a dozen) stabled. That was in Portomarin, in large white building opposite the spot you come up the staircase from the bridge.

Ultreia!

There is a livery yard signposted in Portomarin, presumably the same one.

There is an albergue with stables a few km before Sarria too. Right on the main road.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I'd like information too. We own horses, but are in the US so would need to rent. The only outfitters I can find are expensive, staying at posh places along the way. Does anyone know of some one reputable (treats their horses well), and offers more of a "stay at refugios and eat lentil soup" type of trip? I am walking this Spring with my 14 yo son, but have messed up feet from a rock climbing fall years ago. I'm looking into bikes, strong pain relief, or horses. I like horses, so would be better than bikes I think.

I saw a couple of French women in Zubiri. Their horses were in a yard on the main street. I remember them commenting that they would be starting late the next day as it was a Sunday and the yard owner wouldn't be around early. So maybe that is something to consider when planning. I would imagine that anyone providing for horses would probably be able to advise on the next stabling stops.
