Caminha ferry

Now that the ferry across the Mino is out, does any one know if their is a bus service connecting Caminha with A Guarda ,I need some way to cross on the 18 June.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
You need to cross the river Minho. Without the ferry the only ways would be by boat or bridge. The nearest bridge is at Vila Nova de Cerveira which is roughly 12 k from Caminha. However there appears to be a train between Caminha and Vila Nova de Cerveira.

We camped in Caminha 2 weeks ago and went to the ferry. There is no busconnection between Caminha and a Guarda
From Caminha it is a detour of 25 kms by the bridge of Vila Nova de Cedeira.we drove the distance by car and saw a few pilgrims rounding the detour so count on one day extra walking. Or take the train to VilaNova and walk over the bridge to Spain and find a taxi to A Guarda. Bom caminho. ImageUploadedByCamino de Santiago Forum1401737999.145226.jpg

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-

A taxi from Vila Nova de Cerveira to A Guarda costs approx. 15 euros.

Hello

Does anyone have up to date info on this matter? Is the ferry still out? I have heard that it might be operating already?!

All the best

There was an answer about that matter somewhere on the forum but I cannot find it now.
The other day somebody said it should be last another 15 days before the ferry shall sail again and he also gave alternatives from people who offer their ship to put you to the other side.
Place your call again but than on the caminho Portuges coastal route. . So you'll reach the right people and get the right answers.
Bom caminho

Okey thank you

I have written down couple of numbers, so that in case the ferry is still out, i can get across. I will start on the 1.August, so there is even a slight possibility that i will get across with the official ferry.

Depending on where you start Porto or Póvoa de Varzim and how much you walk per day you could be in Caminha in 4 or 5 days

We will start in Póvoa de Varzim because the trek Porto to Vila do Conde we allready walked last year.

Eventually you can make the detour via the bridge at Vila Nova de Cerveira, a 25 kms detour.
We drove it by car a few weeks ago.a lot of pilgrims we have seen doing that.

Our starting point is Porto and if necessary then we will walk the extra 25 km. We are not in a hurry so don't want take the car. That's nice that there are a lot of pilgrims on this road - at first i thought that the coastal way is not that popular.

Okay. Nice walk from the center of Porto to Matosinhos and on to Vila do Conde.
Next place is Povoa de Varzim.
We walked the camiño Ingles this year and took our car and caravan with us .both stayed on a campingsite in the north of Galicia during our walk. After finishing we drove to Portugal and explored a part of the Coastal among others Viana do Castelo, Caminha and A Guarda.
We were at the quai of the ferry in Caminha and pictured the note on the door.ImageUploadedByCamino de Santiago Forum1405682725.975382.jpg
Next year May we are intending to walk the Coastal.
Bom caminho

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Yes from my previous posts I said the following :

Mario Gonçalves 963416259 maximum 5 people on boat 10 € per person, with boarding where the ferry is in Caminha.
Portnautic advance notice of 30 minutes, catamaran with capacity for 12 people 031741 967 still don't have price.
Emidio Sebastian Nunes 965836998."

Thank you - that's a very useful and encouraging description of the route I hope to follow in early October.
I notice you didn't list the accommodation you used - any particular reason?
Also - your Youtube video seems to be gone.
But again, thank you - I'll print your article out and carry it with me.

Sorry about that, yes there is a technical problem but should be back by end of week !

Thank you for your excellent information. I had copied your article and then couldn't remember where I had even found you. I will be starting my journey Sept 20th or so. Looking forward to it.

Hi everyone,

It seems like the ferry is still not working. Everyone mentions a guy by the name of Mario who can take you over in a small taxi boat. My question is about the tides (the ferry does not usually run when the tide is low) Does he work throughout the day? Has anyone used him in the past 3 months?

Used it in October last year. You get a ticket from the cafe. Seems to be on demand but best to text or call the numbers from #13 above.

There’s a FB page somewhere too.

Perhaps a Portuguese speaker could call and update us as Camino numbers are climbing again and this question will come up again?

Edit: Note that there were two ferries from Caminha. One took you to A Guarda but was closed last year. The water taxi takes you on the short trip across the river and you have a couple of miles to go over the hill or round the coast (my preference) to get to A Guarda.

I looked at the internet at info about the ferry but there is no recent information.
in september 2021 there was some haveria ( damage) but since then no more news
go to the camping site and ask for “ o pescador”. Can be Mario , can be Pedro or anyone but they set you over in a few minutes to A Guarda with their small fishingboats.

Cap'n Mario, called him in September, speaks (some) Spanish.

PS Looks like he's more popular with bicigrinos than peregrinos, ha

I would like to walk the river route in Tui next month. I can see on google maps exactly where it starts, but it seems a bit overgrown. Has anybody used this route this year or last year...
Hello, my friend of 50+ years and I are on our first Camino walk. We are looking for: 1) safe, comfortable hostels in Lisbon; 2) stages from Lisbon to Porto (via Tomar) in about 16 days...
Hi I have searched everywhere to see if there is a luggage service from Lisbon to Porto. I know there is from Porto to Santiago, but Lisbon ???. Thanks for any info.
