Ordered my badges ... ordered my sleeping bag ... sample packed everything I have assembled so far and tested in in daughter's backpack (have yet to get my own still trying to decide how big or small I need) walking daily up to 8 km rain or shine (we are slow walking the Camino, only planning on 10+ km daily) and beginning to incorporate some steep inclines/declines. We are hoping to walk in early May and take anywhere up to 2 months to complete but as of yet have not ordered our plane tickets so don't have any reservations for Orrison or SJPP. Our plans have not yet firmed up but unless something drastic happens between now and then it will be a go. I am starting to get nervous. Hubby has begun to get enthused (this has been my baby up til now, he was just my support crew ... but now I think the enormity of what we are about to attempt is beginning to sink in ... yay!) ... oh it's his Birthday in a few days and when I asked him what he wanted, he immediate said Pacer Poles (he has been borrowing our daughter's pair to train) ... I laughed and tried to deflect (already have them hidden under the bed) but he one upped me ... and declared rather certainly ... "You have probably already ordered them" LOLOL ... he obviously knows me too well ...

You never know! We are slow walking it ( only covering about half the distance daily that most folks do depending on the placement of the nearest convenient Alburge whenever we reach that point) so it wouldn't surprise me one bit if you should happen to pass us even IF we start on May 1 (our departure is not yet formalized and life could throw a wrench in the works ... still not sure... 85 year old MIL is not well but I remain hopeful it isn't too serious) ... I should have my forum badge on my pack. Say hi if you see it :)

Hi My name is Ela and I'm new to the forum. I've already booked my flights and time off work and I look foward to start Camino Primitivo just after this Easter :) Any tips about weather and conditions? Thanks a lot guys

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Starting my first Camino from SJPdP on/about September 5th and taking almost 7 weeks to go to Muxia and finishing at Fisterra.

Kev, our paths should cross as I leave on the 7th and am planning for 6 weeks. I will definitely say hi!

Booked my first night at Orrisson on the 6th of May. Time is flying by until I leave. I really enjoy reading everyone's plans. It adds to the whole experience even from the planning stages. I am just so excited.... I feel like a kid going to camp.

Welcome Amy! It does feel like camp!

Good present choice. Used my pacer Poles for first time last weekend and I am now a definite advocate - at least my grateful knees are! Yes enormity of endeavour takes a while to sink in and part of me is still in denial that it will be real all too soon. Buen Camino

I am from Ohio, USA and am starting my camino from SJPDP in May, 2015. I have booked my flight and arrive in Paris on the 5th of May and will train to SJPDP. I intend to walk to Santiago in 30-35 days.

I am a little nervous but also super excited.

Buen Camino!
Well at that pace you are bound to overtake me sometime after Pamplona, as we are taking rest breaks to soak up the vino, culture and interesting places along the way. Buen camino

I would love to take more time on the camino. A little culture a little wine. Sounds great! I am meeting a friend in Southern Spain for about 10 days after I get to Santiago. Maybe I will have time for that then. Maybe we will meet.

The Andalusia Provence is beautiful. I have a house rented for the last two weeks in June, they say that is spring in the Rhonda mountains and should be beautiful.

Stephen

Oh wow, you are heading on a similar path as me - maybe our paths will cross. I have recently been researching Southern Spain and do intend on visiting Ronda. We will be staying on the coast and will try to explore as many of those beautiful cities as time allows. We are also planning on a one night stay in Morocco. I have a flight booked out of Santiago to Malaga on the 6th of June so that only leaves me 30 days to complete the Camino. I wish we would have rented a house.

Well if you are going to Andalucia there is so many places to see - in addition to Ronda, love Seville, Cordoba, Parque Nacional de Donana. If you like Paradores - (1) Mazagon - on the beach, (2) Carmona - near Seville, (3) Ronda - for location. If you go to Jerez de la Frontera (near Cadiz) there is a wonderful spanish horse show - "Fundacion Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre". When I go to Portugal in July will be revisiting Mazagon and stopping at Cadiz before flying back from Seville. Enjoy the tapas and try wonderful sherries. Buen Camino

Hello to all!
I am from the UK and am planning to walk the CdN in mid-june. Not sure i have the time to make it all the way but planning to start from Irun and see how i get on.I don't see many others doing the CdN on here?

I have heard of the Camino over the years, and being a bit of a walker it has always been on my mind. The movie The Way cemented my desire however and i suspect ill have another viewing before i set off :)

I am staying in Gaucin, a painted village above Gibraltar. The cost per night for a house that sleeps four is $100.00 US. If you can still plan look at rusticblue.com. They have self catering units all over Andalusia. Some are less expensive than this. They are flexible on dates. Gaucin is 30 minutes off the coast. I will be there from the 13th to the 27th of June. Let me know if I can help.

I rented my car at the airport last time and will do so again so I can just leave it when I fly out. I haven't looked at the rates yet but rusticblue. com can give you leads on that also. They were very economical also.

Hi
biggrin.png

I'm Hope. I'm planning to walk the Camino from St Jean to Santiago in Sept/Oct 2015. I've read a book on what to take, and probably more importantly, what not to take and have just started reading John Brierley's guide. I have only ever done one trek before and that was a 3 day mountain trek in New Zealand (I'm a West Aussie) so this is quite an adventure for me.
I'm really very excited about it. I am not sure whether I'll be walking alone or with a friend yet but either way I will be walking!!

Looking forward to meeting and chatting with fellow pilgrims here

Hi Hope! I am going solo September/Oct 2015. Very excited. I've done 7 days on the Appalachian Trail a loooonnng time ago but other than that no long distance hiking. I live in USA, Alabama. Melanie

Hi all.
Excuse me, you allow me a geographical correction.
Andalucia is an autonomous region, and it has eight provinces. Spain is made up of 17 autonomous regions and two autonomous cities.
Just pretend that you know a little more about Spain.
thx.

My husband (Ian) and I (Trish) will be starting our Camino Frances from SJPP on 8th April. We're taking it fairly slow and will be finishing in Finisterre on 22nd May then back to Santiago for our last night on 23rd May. If anyone else is out there at the same time, please say hi .
There are 5 weeks to go before we leave and I am starting to get nervous and very excited - we haven't done enough in the way of practice walks but we have read so many accounts of people doing it without any practice so we think we should be OK.
Question for all you veterans and Camino experts - I have a light weight duck down jacket and a polar fleece - will I need both in April? I believe that it is likely to be still snowing and I hate the cold :)

Hi Stephen.
I have even big problems with my English.
My intention is to teach a little about Spain.
Thank you for your understanding and I apologize for my English.
Mikel
Good Morning Mike, at least it is here, I first visited Spain about eight years ago and stayed in Gaucin for two weeks. I was able to connect with members of the Andalusian masters swim program and swim with several of the clubs while I was there. Mijas and their club were very gracious to me. I have always had a love for the area and the people since then. I am so excited about being able to come back and spend so much time and see more of your beautiful country. Your English is so much better than my Spanish. I try and want those I come into contact with in your country to know how much I appreciate their hospitality and the chance to learn more about them, their beautiful country and traditions. If you are going to be on the road or in the area I am staying at the end, it would be great if our paths crossed.
Stephen

Snow is possible but unlikely. I take a fleece and outer jacket (a wind jacket since I am not too susceptible to the cold). Your combination sounds good if you hate the cold! I presume that the down jacket is not large or heavy. You can layer: t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, fleece, jacket, and poncho. It is hard to get cold in that combination. Buen camino.

Thought it was time I joined this class! I'm planning to start my Camino from SJPdP mid-April 2015, after having postponed my earlier planned departure (Sept '14) at 10 days' notice, for medical reasons. I'll be walking with my 79-year-old mother. Back into training now following recovery from surgery, building up the length of my walks and rethinking equipment to take ("essential" being such a relative term!). This forum has been my constant companion, source of strength, advice and support for over a year now, and with flights re-booked and plans re-made, I'll be counting on you all to get me through the next 4 months until we go!
Maybe see you both in April.....I start 23rd....Will soon be here...Burn Camino

Can't wait to meet new people and just go with the flow. I will be excited to here about your journey and would love any last minute advice you can offer upon your return. My your trip be all you hope for and more :) Buen Camino :) Melanie

About to start a 2nd Camino on about the 10th of March, 2015, beginning in St Jean. Concerned a little about the cold, but expect I'll be OK. I've been lurking here from time to time, getting good advice from those with many miles underfoot--and generally appreciating the camaraderie here. Thanks to all of you out there!

Hello Melanie, I have found that the earlier I buy my ticket the better the deal. I am flying into Paris and taking train to SJPdP to start. REI is a great place to get equipment. If you keep an eye on the forum you will meet friends that are starting the same time as you and have someone to begin with. I think we are in for the adventure of our life.:) Do you know a Mr Charlie Jones who owned Builders Cash and Carry in Enterprise? We used to do business together, nice man. Stephen

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I'm Karen, my husband is Randy. We are from Ohio. We will be biking in June. (From Leon) can't walk it because of my knees. We are so excited and have been reading and planning for months. We welcome any words of wisdom!:)
Welcome, and enjoy the journey. I wish you a great experience and a Buen Camino, Peter.

Wow, another month done, and in the books. ..and what a month it was...3+ft of snow here in New England. Makes training very difficult (and dangerous) with nowhere to walk except in the middle of the road. ..lucky for me my job (ups driver) forces me to do alot of waking to and from my truck...lol
Another storm coming in tonight with another 6" to top of what we already have :-(

The snow makes for lousy hiking but great skiing. I am counting on skiing 5 days a week, and a bit of time each day on the treadmill, to keep my legs in some type of shape, at least until the end of March when I have to park the skis and put on the pack.

Buen Camino from the Poconos.

Be sure you try it first in a camino-type environment. You will be taking everything you own (almost) into the shower, and Lush sheets will turn into a soggy bar of soap in the wet environment!
FYI Lush also carries shampoo bars, which can also be used for body and clothes :) Mine just arrived. Seems to work well -- at least here at home. Have seen a post suggesting putting a toothpick in the bottom of a plastic container to keep bars from sticking to the bottom and turning to goo. Worth a try.

Hi Melanie, Hopefully we will meet on the trial. I'm still not 100% sure I'm going this year but it's looking pretty positive at the moment. Would love to stay in contact and meet along the way.

Maybe, as I am a fast walker. I really do want to take my time and smell the roses, and experience everything the Camino has to offer. My schedule allows for 40 days on the Camino so I really don't want to rush.

Hi, My name is Laura and I'll be walking the Camino Frances in May & June 2015... hope to see you there!

I'm planning to walk the Camino Ingles in May, 2015 & this time my husband wants to come. I just did the Frances from SJPP & has been home for 3 months now. Looking forward to this Camino & hoping my experience walking Camino Frances will help me plan my next Camino. This will be a great way for both of us to celebrate birthdays, his 71st & 70th for me.

My mom, sister and I have been training and prepping for CP this spring. We intend to start in Ponte de Lima on April 10. We are taking it slow and aiming for a short walk since it's our first Camino and were hesitant to bite off more than we could chew on the first attempt.

Our training has been a bit hampered by training in bitter winter this year in Canada but we are excited more than nervous at this point. Looking forward to the journey and wish everyone a Buen Camino (Bom Caminho!).

I am starting my camino from Le Puy on 25th March - have wanted to follow a camino for many years but work/time have prevented me from doing this. Have just been made redundant and at the age of 63 I think it is now or never. Have completed a few long distance trails in the UK (Winchester to Canterbury, the south west coast path, etc) but never in one go, so am looking forward to it. My French and Spanish are pretty poor but I am sure I will manage with a small dictionary!
Will be carrying a 65l pack which will not be full, but the great info on this site indicates warm weather clothing will be needed for some of the route in france during April. Arrival date in Santiago - when I get there!

We are leave Melbourne on Good Friday and will spend a few days in Paris before starting the Camino. We will be leaving SJPP on the 9th April and taking an easy walk to Valcarlos. If anyone else is leaving around the 9th, please let me know and we will look out for you.

However, there are likely to be many more Pilgrims then, so, to help you know who I am I will be the one riding a large pure white stallion and wearing a suit of shining armour. If you watch closely enough you might see me slaying a dragon, saving a damsel in distress and rescuing a kitten from a tree.;)

After sucking up really good to my boss, my Camino will now start on July 1st instead of September 1st.
I'll be in St Jean on June 30th for a relaxing couple of days before I start.
A walking buddy would be good, anyone going the same time ? :)

How very exciting! It sounds like a scene from The Hobbit or maybe The Princess Bride.
Do you look anything like Bilbo Baggins?

To the class of 2015, I'll be starting my first Camino on April 26th in Toulouse. The plan (currently) is to follow the Chemin d'Arles, visit Lourdes, on to the Camino Aragones and meet up with all you SJPP travelers somewhere along the line.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Buen Camino DCGuy!

Hi Class of 2015! My camino date has changed from this September to May 11, 2015 (I leave in about 9 weeks)!! I am so excited. I am flying into Pamplona and staying with a couple who have done the walk and now have a guest house. They also will drive you to St. Jean which is where I will start. My walk will begin from St. Jean on May 13. I have most of my gear with just a couple of small things left. I've been walking daily and love it. Anyone else heading out from St. Jean on May 13? Buen camino!

Hola to all class 2015 members,
I am from Ottawa, ON, Canada and can't wait to start my first camino. I will arrive in Roncevalles on May 4th. This is a personal project that have grown in me for many years. I am currently on a sabatical leave from work; this camino will give me time to reflect on where I am, where I am going. I first was attracted by all those peregrino/as who walked on those steps over the centuries, it seems to me that I will be able to feed myself with all this fantastic energy that inhabit the way. I also want to prove myself that I have the strenght, the will power, the determination to walk it solo, although I expect to form a camino family :)
Buen camino to all. See you on the Way.

The Class of .. threads were started back in when 2007 Arn had the bright idea of creating a topic for all those planning to go in 2008. His post:

The number of folks making their Camino each year is in the thousands, surely there are more of you out there.

Who among you is willing to acknowledge you're a member of the class of 2015?

Hi Kiko I'm the same - being a walker, thinking about... now it's the time to put it into practice :) My first Camino is fast approaching and it will be Primitivo so quite close to yours. I'm going on my own but I'm a bit of a loner so it will be great.
Buen Camino!

Welcome Kropelka and Buen Camino!

Recently I was on holidays in my home country- Poland and during my training (walking 15km every day) I've noticed a familiar sign : Ćmiłów, Poland 3500 km from Santiago :)20150302_181559.jpg

Hi Kiko , Kropelka & all the peregrino, I also will walk the North but I will (all going well) start walking from Geneva on the 15 of April, Valance, Puy-en-Velay,

SJPDP, walk toward Hendaye, Irun and carry on to SDC, then Fisterre, ending like usual in Muxia, I don't know how it will all go, but certainly I will give it a good try, I thought it could take me between two and half and three months and I am sure we will find lots of friendly Peregrinos on the way and I am sure James will be there waiting to welcome us all .

Buen Camino.

Ernie

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hello all

Can anyone advise how many times you need to have your Credential stamped.
Is it OK to have it stamped at your accommodation when you arrive or leave.
I thought I had read that you had to have it stamped twice a day but probably mistaken as that seems like overkill to me

Mike

I thought they were only looking for twice a day for the last 100KMs? Because really you only have to go 100 KMs to get the document.

OK thanks for that. No doubt will find out once underway.
To be frank whether or not I get the credential at Santiago is secondary. If you have done it you don't need a piece of paper to say you have.
Anyway good look on your travels.

Hi All -- great to be a member of the Class of 2015 -- I will start my first Camino on the 29th of March -- traveling from Brussels, Belgium to SJPdP on the 28th of March and will start the trek on the 29th of March -- could not convince my wife to come with me, but she promised to pick me up in Santiago at the end of the Month ( I hope she did not have her finger's crossed when she said that -- could be a long trip back to Brussels) -- My home State is Nebraska, so hoping the meet up with others from the Husker Nation (I will be wearing my red Nebraska Hat -- ok, tacky, but is what it is : ) -- of course if it really gets cold, the NE hat is in the bag and the watch cap is coming out ) -- Have been living in Europe (Germany, Italy, Belgium) for the last 9 years and will return back to the US this Fall -- figured walking the El Camino would be an epic adventure and a once in a lifetime experience -- from what I have read on the posts here -- am sure that will be the case --Have all of my tickets to get me down to SJPdP, just working the last minute detail on where to stay the night of the 28th in SJPdP -- any suggestions would absolutely be welcomed -- still sorting out my pack, the one I have been hiking with is a tad too small -- my stuff will fit, but it is tight, so going with REI on a little bit bigger setup -- if it gets here in time -- if not, well it is like life, things will work out -- Looking forward to meeting the 2015 Camino Family on the trek --
