Hi there Peregrinos! I am taking ship tomorrow on my way to the Camino - should be at Roncesvalles in the afternoon of the 25th August and will move backwards and forwards between Roncesvalles and Logrono until JennyH from Australia joins me in Pamplona and we will be back at Roncesvalles 5/6th and then may be found almost anywhere on the Camino!

We will be wearing big green first aid backpacks, so easily recognisable. Please DO come and say hello!!

We have a car (though we will also be walking lots of Camino sections - Hurrah!) - Now, disasters happen; the sudden need to get to an airport because there is an emergency at home, an injury that needs hospital attention and no way to get to one, etc, etc - Now, I hope all goes well for you but if you do have a serious problem then message me, saying where you are, what the problem is, and leave your mobile (or the refugio's) number and we will get back to you. I will be checking the forum every day.

If we can get to you, we will - our first aid is free but if your problem involves travelling serious distances we will ask for a contribution towards fuel (only if you have the funds).

Buen Camino!!!!

How very kind of you to offer your support. As a first time trekker this September I feel reassured knowing seasoned pilgrims are around and am quite touched seeing how much you and others give back so much. Thank you.

Buen Camino David and Jenny - what a wonderful service you are offering....hopefully though, your services will not be required too much... it is comforting to know that folk such as yourselves are out there to give support if and where needed....susanawee.

Thank you for offering your services. I will be on the Camino starting Sept. 24. How do I contact you if I need help (short of trying to find this thread again when I am in pain)?

Thank you David for this wonderful service :)

God Bless You

Hi. Bookmark my name in some way and if you need help send a private message, on the forum it is "start a conversation". Will be checking in every day.
Buen Camino!

Wasn't sure where to put this question. When I volunteer in India, I always register with the Canadian Consulate in Chennai, so that in the event of any emergency, major event, etc. they have record that I am in the country and where. Do any pilgrims do this when they arrive in Spain (or whatever their destination city is)?

When I've gone to SE Asia, Maggie, I've registered with the US State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program to enter the trip in case of emergency. Don't know if Canada has something similar?

Yes Beth we do and I have registered in Canada so they know where I'm going and when. When I go to India, I do the same, but also register in Chennai (India), so know I am there and for how long. Likely never needed, but at least it's on record. Thanks….

Perhaps you could tell us where in Canada to register, please.

Sure Lynda (I really need to learn how to attach a link). Here it is: travel.gc.ca/travelling/register. But if I have a chance, I will also register at the Canadian consulate in Madrid. Buen Camino :>)

How about being at the Col de Lepoeder around noon on September 16 with a defibrillator and some Amiodarone?:0))).

Will look forward to running across you both along the way and thanks so much for your kind help to others on the Camino. A brilliant way to use your medical expertise!

Heya! Have been in between Roncesvalles and Pamplona for a few days now. Is averaging 32 Celsius, even 39 in Pamplona today, so is hot walking for pilgrims, Is lovely but has been a bit blowy up on the top of the pass, I met a few pilgrims who had become a bit nervous..
Nearly all pilgrims so far seem disgustingly healthy so few first aid problems. One French woman, a senior, had bad instep pain. I sat with her to talk about it and found out it was on both feet so I suggested she look at the height of the inner profile but she told me there was nothing wrong with her shoes. Then I noticed that not only was she deeply tanned but her feet were too and asked her if she wore footwear at home. "Never! I live in the country and have a huge veg patch', I never wear shoes" so there her problem, unused to shoes that have been lifting her instep. She was rubbing on a gel and I asked her to show it to me, was a 'healthy blossoms and natural ingredients gel' so I asked her if she would like some ibuprofen gel, which was received with a huge Yes Please! I put enough in a grip seal for a few days.
Also met a young German girl, rather large, walking in her socks with her boots tied to her pack. I could see she had flat feet and she was walking very slowly. I asked if she needed help and she said no .... What can you do .... It is unfair though, apart from a few blisters pilgrims are too healthy - selfish I call it :););)

Yesterday afternoon in the Pamplona area there was the most furious storm, real sweeping things away wind with rain so heavy it was bouncing a foot or more off the ground! Temp dropped from 33 to 21 in less than an hour. Carried on with heavy heavy rain all night. Is dry now and cloudy with occasional sunshine, temp is about 23 Celsius .
I have been moving between Roncesvalles and Larasoana each afternoon. Repairing some pilgrims, handing out first aid things to others but most are healthy and happy.. Nearly all has been blisters with a few inflamed knee tendons - watch those descents, they can really hurt the knees.

Buen Camino!

Great to get a "live" report David. It is interesting because you see so many different pilgrims.
