I am starting from Alicante in two weeks and wondered whether anyone had any recommendations for accommodation in or just outside the city on the camino? Albergue, hostal, casa rurale, pension......

Thank you
Buen camino

Hi, dalston,
Sorry that I don't have any recommendations, but I did just want to say buen camino -- and I would love to hear how it goes for you. Are you planning to walk the Sureste the whole way, or will you switch to the Lana or Levante?

If Alicante is like other Spanish cities, you will find cheap pensiones around the cathedral. The guide I've seen says the camino starts on the beach and then goes past the cathedral: http://www.dealbaceteasantiago.es/CSE_gA-AB.html

The good thing about going to Alicante in two weeks is that there are millions of summer accommodations, none of which will be occupied by beach-goers now! Buen camino, Laurie

I am actually going to Alicante at the end of March with my girlfriend to have a quiet celebration of my 60th anniversary (happy to be alive...). Ordered the flight tickets today, actually. I use www.hostels.com as my source for sleeping. Surprisingly low prices. Then back to Arctic Norway and down again 3 weeks later (as close to Pamplona as possible) in order to start my next camino.. What a world we live in...

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Hello and thank you all for your suggestions. I only have two weeks this trips so haven't decided on a plan, will see what the weather is like on arrival, and the route etc and make it up as I go along! I will try and post any useful information I find out though.
Buen camino a todos

Hello,

A message a little bit too late... But there's a hostel called Pensión Versailles. It is about 50 mtrs from the Basílica Santa María, the traditional starting point of the Sureste. The first waymarker, saying "This is the start of the Camino del Sureste..." and so on, is on the wall 10 mtrs (!) from the door of the hostel. Right across the street. No need to go hunting for the first arrow...

Hoping this will help future pilgrims

Hi,

It was 34 euros so a bit expensive, commodity ok, nothing to complain about. There were groups of youngsters/students that were going to celebrate San Juan but they didn't make any noise. Nice patio and walls around it so you are protected from the worst noise of the traffic. In spite of the price I stayed there because it would be such an easy start... I always get lost in large cities.
