Arles Route 2016

Time of past OR future Camino
Via De La Plata + Sanabres march-april 1050km 2015
Arles to Lodeve + Norte & Primitivo march-may 1250km 2016
Planning for Sureste and Torres march 2017
Am curious if there are others here who are planning to start in Arles at the end of March? We have not really decided the start date, but somewhere around the end of March or early April. Looks very much forward to it.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hello Helen,

I will be interested to hear what you think of the Arles route. I am very curious!
Bon chemin!

A Camino friend and I walked the Arles/Aragones route in July 2013 from Toulouse to Puente la Reina and we were often alone in the gites in France. It was only until we were closer to Spain in Izco and encountered a family group of eleven that were we concerned about getting beds for the next night. I imagine that there will be even fewer people walking the route in March/April. It was a beautiful route, but there was a limited number of accommodations, longer distances between accommodations, and it was more expensive than the Camino Frances.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I walked the Arles from Lourdes to SDC, I agree with Marylynn it's more expensive then the Frances I walked mid October and it was very busy from Jaca to Puente la Reina, in France the accomdation are nicer and the food it's a lot better then the menu del peregrino.

I think your description is spot on, but it should be noted that Lourdes is not on the route, and that the pilgrimage to Lourdes has nothing to do with the traditional St Jacques pilgrimage.

It will suit us perfectly. We walked the VdlP last year with long day trips (30-50km) and not many hikers. I would like to meet other hikers but not get crowded with them. When we get up in the Pyrenees, we turn off towards the north coast of Spain GR11 towards Irun and then take the Camino del Norte and then Primitivo before we finally arrive to Santiago. It will be a great adventure :)

You are right newfydog so you can say that I started in Oloron-Sainte-Marie, but don't let stop you from starting in Lourdes :)the info office will issue a passport and in the way out is this great albergue, interesting enough I met 3 pelgrims two French men once and in 2013 walk I met a lady from Madrid in The way back from St James (both occasions)

Then maybe you can tell if it is simple to get any form of start-stamp in my credential at the Chatedral in Tours. Thanks a lot :)

IIRC there is a postcard/rosary kiosque and it can be obtained there. Their website has a pilgrims page (http://www.paroisse-cathedrale-tour...oisse-saint-maurice/pelerins-de-saint-jacques) suggesting that the pilgrim stop at the tomb of Saint Martin, but there are few specifics. Otherwise, there is a welcome from volunteers and a cathedral office at these hours (http://www.paroisse-cathedrale-tour...paroisse-saint-maurice/secretariat-permanence)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I lasted 3 days in the spring of 2013, when I started from Montpellier and encountered no other hikers. Seriously isolating and isolated.

Bring a friend and a good book. I backtracked and caught a train to Aumont Aubrac and enjoyed repeating most of the Le Puy route.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Do visit Arles as its beautiful. Visit the Alyscamps where the nice girl in the entry kiosk will stamp your Credential and point out the official start point of the Arles Route just opposite her kiosk; as you are a pilgrim she will also let you into the Alyscamps free and its a lovely peaceful place.

Once you've done all this I would strongly recommend taking the train to Montpellier and start walking from there; I walked to Montpellier and as a walk it has absolutely nothing to commend it.

Montpellier on the other hand is glorious and do visit the church of St Roch the great pilgrim and patron saint of the city; there is pilgrim accommodation there apparently, if you can find it but also plenty of good cheap hotels - the tourist office just up the road from the station in the Place de la Comédie are most helpful.

Take the tram out of Montpellier to walk onwards to St Guilhem Le Desert (stay at the Carmel) and beyond, from Montpellier its beautiful. You won't meet many other pilgrims on the French section but it is lovely. I recommend the Miam Miam Dodo guide for all the best information on lodgings, shops etc.
Ultreïa.

The internet tells us that your credential can be stamped by the local Camino association (Mme Renée Debard, 30 avenue de Pskov, 13200 Arles Tél : 06 83 26 13 16 / 06 87 28 27 34 / 04 90 96 29 09 Courriel : renee.debard@wanadoo.fr), or at the entry of the cathedral's cloister (or the rectory Monday-Friday 0.00-12.00 or Saturday 10.00-12.00), or at the Tourism Office.

.

We loved the flowers and birds of the Carmargue wetlands past Arles. Plus, you'd miss the newfydog kennel, and the incredible cathedral in St Gilles where the sinners are eaten by beasts!

Seriously, if you appreciate history and the country of the Rhone delta, don't start in Montpellier. St Gilles is a very important pilgrimage destination, with it's own trail from LePuy.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
We will be walking from Arles beginning on 1 April, 2016. Though I've read a lot of comments about starting in Montpelier, I can't get past the idea that my Camino Arles needs to start in Arles!

We have about 6 weeks so our idea is to walk the Arles and Aragones routes to Puente La Reina and then, if time allows, we will skip along from Puente La Reina to Leon by bus and then walk the Camino Salvador to Oviedo.

I have wonderful memories of Leon from my times on the Frances in 2011 and 2013, and of Oviedo, the starting point of our Camino Primitivo, in 2014. So the idea of walking between Leon and Oviedo sounds perfect.

Bon chemin. Buen Camino

Great :) We will start in Arles 30 march, så we will be two days ahead of you. If you are a fast walker you might catch up with us :)
Not so many weeks left now :) I really looking forward to it.

Have a great time out there and

Buen Camino

This is a general question for my curiosity. It probably should be posted in “Equipment etc” but would probably get a lot of Spain replies. I’m not bringing my emergency beacon but I did read on...
