A question for all of you that do videos/slideshows: Where do you find the music to accompany them? It is really important for me to find sound tracks I can legally use without breaching copyright! Thanks for any help! SY

Where will you play the music if live or what country will you host it on? Copyright law is quite tricky and varies from country to country.

Things are so messed up in the United States that you should assume that no recordings will be in the public domain there until the late 2060s. You will need to license the work. The potential fines due to YouTube postings are probably greater than all the money ever printed and minted.

I know, that is the reason I am asking! I simply look for some 'free to use' instrumental music to put up as background music to the pics I took of my various caminos. I am happy to pay a license few as long as it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. Thanks again, SY

PS Planing to post said videos/slide shows on Youtube/Vimeo and then on my own website.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
We used royalty free music for our book trailer video by Kevin MacLeod

He has a number of tracks that may work for you.

I do love this community! Thanks ever so much for another great starting point! SY

PS The sound track you chose for your video is gorgeous and very appropriate for a Camino ...

I've been told, and I can't vouch for this, that if you post a video on Youtube containing music which is not copyright-free, they attach a short ad at the beginning, the proceeds of such ads going towards paying royalties. This absolves you, I guess, from the moral implications.
If you make a habit of it, they send you a warning.
Can anyone confirm this?

Not at all and quite the opposite! I uploaded a video to Youtube once with background music I had the right to use and it was taken down because of 'copyright infringement'. Took me a while to get it through again ... Also the admin behind the system you heard of would be mind boggling if you think about the amount of videos uploaded every day. SY

I had a video banned for breach of music copyright and was warned my YouTube account could be closed!

I now use royalty free music....

SYates, did you ever find music and upload a video? I'm looking for music, too. I don't think it has to be public domain, as I'm just going to use it for private slideshows. Any suggestions welcome.

What I'm doing now is creating a station on Pandora to discover music similar to what I want. Mostly guitar instrumentals by William Ackerman, Dave Beegle, Joe Livoti, Juan Sanchez. Still looking for more Spanish stuff; flamenco and Celtic.

No, I didn't  I played around with it for a while, but wasn't happy with the results. Might need to revisit that project!
As for "... , as I'm just going to use it for private slideshows." I am a stickler for copyright so I either use material that I have the right to use (license bought, public domain, permission granted, etc.) or I don't use it at all.

Buen Camino, SY

Greetings all. I was scheduled to start in Porto in a few days. Went for a 20 km hike yesterday (my longest thus far) and almost didn’t make it. By the time I got home, I could hardly walk...
