We are walking to Finisterre a few days after we arrive in Santiago, will we be able to put off obtaining our compostelas until we return to Santiago? We wouldn't like to carry them if the weather is not good.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Yes you can obtain your Compostellas when you return to Santiago if you wish. However the Pilgrim office in Santiago can provide you with a protective tube for your Compostellas.

Theoretically yes, but the easiest way in my opinion would be

Get Compostela on arrival and a new credencial to walk to Finisterre/Muxia.
Laminate and put Compostela in protective tube.
Take it with you or leave it with either your albergue/hotel, @ivar or Pilgrims House to pick up on return.
Walk to Finisterre/Muxia and, if so desired, obtain their certificates on arrival.

Buen Camino, SY

As long as you have a stamp that shows you arrived to Santiago and didn't by-pass it.

I have been trying to find a way to avoid the circus during the last stages of Frances. In two hours you can take the Lugo - Ourense train and walk the last stages on the Plata. Is it a good idea...
