Time of past OR future Camino

(Disclaimer, I am not an employee or sponsored by the company who makes this sleep preserving product)

I am currently walking the Camino Francés, before I departed for my trip I anticipated snoring would be an issue, as obviously the way is a shared journey.. I did some research online and fatefully discovered a new product on a website called 'Kickstarter', I backed the product and they hastily shipped it to me in time as they promised. The product is called 'Isolate' by a company called Flare Audio, it is basically just a pair of ear tips that you place in your ear canal, they are padded with foam for comfort and the metal bit on the outside absords all sound (snoring, inebriated individuals making too much noise outside.. Etc..) you will hear nothing but bone structure noise inside your own body. So far I can safely say that they have been well worth the investment.. Crowd-funding campaigns have now closed but pre-orders are now being taken on IndieGogo, if you are planning a Camino or any other travel with shared sleeping quarters or just value your hearing these are a must have piece of kit.. (I don't write reviews often but when you deal with people providing quality customer service and an excellent product it is the least I can do to show my gratitude and help others)

**As I write this there is at least 3 people snoring, always makes me chuckle because I know it isn't an issue for me!**

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I imagine some people will look at the price and think woah that's too expensive for something like that but my goodness you couldn't be anymore wrong. To me quality restorative sleep is priceless and when you are walking half-marathons + everyday with a rucksack on your back you need that top notch beauty sleep! This is something just as essential as your shoes or rucksack, you get what you pay for!

Sounds interesting and I may invest.
Right now I'm using HEAROS and I squish them so tightly into my ears I need a drill to get them out.
But they DO work...:D

Conventional earplugs just reduce noise, they don't block it out.. The isolate ear plugs absorb noise and they're easy to remove, you just twist and pull. (Symphony of snorers in here has increased to around 5)

The amount people pay on constantly buying earplugs, they may aswell just invest a little more and be done with it.. :)

Well Ryan, when you've finished the Camino, you will maybe be able to turn your hand to a new career in marketing. In fact if you were to let Flare Audio know I'm sure they would give you an interview, after all they seem to employ an awful lot of people with your forename to extol their as yet, unproven, virtues across the kickstarter world.
Buen Camino, hombre.

I've dealt with a good number of their team in the process and not come across one with the same forename, it is strange you would say something like that. Unproven? Do you know what a testimonial is? Take it or leave I care not but I wrote it because I am truly happy with the product. Have a nice life with that attitude. Buen Camino indeed :p

I see you've not walked the Camino yet, you made the right decision, well done. :)

I find walking 30 or so kilometres in a day obviates the need for artificial aids to sleep. Though there may be a demand for snore sound blockers from people sleeping in my vicinity.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Ryan, these sound interesting, but what happens if you sleep on your side? Does the metal part get in the way and press into the ear?

Low frequency sounds are really difficult to block, I know. I'm about to go to bed in a room with a really noisy fridge...

Yes, Wayfarer, you are correct. I apologise.

Ryan I am truly sorry if you are not marketing for the company.

You are correct I have not yet done the Camino Frances.
Nonetheless, this is the second time that @Ryan Alexander has promoted this product. The first time here in response to a question about snoring where providing information about particular products seems entirely appropriate. In providing this so called testimonial, it appears to be largely a repetition of the company's own advertising blurb for the product with a little added boosting about how good an investment they might be. Really!! Paying 25 - 50 euro for a pair of earplugs certainly wouldn't appeal to me as being good value for money under any circumstances.

That may be your opinion. I suffer badly from being a light sleeper. I spend quite a few £s on earplugs each year and none fully block the base sounds. I'd spend £25 on a pair if they truly worked. If you went out for a meal as a couple, you would easily spend more than that, and that would only last an evening. True sound blocking ear plugs could make a hUge difference for many years. Maybe you are one of the offending snorers, Doug.

That may be your opinion.
It is, and clearly stated as such. It is interesting to see that you have a different opinion, although I don't see the relevance of your analogy to eating out.

Maybe you are one of the offending snorers, Doug
I think the fact that I snore is either well known or relatively easily discovered from my previous posts on the subject of snorers. At least I am prepared to admit that, unlike the many pilgrims who seem to be in complete denial that they do. What about you?

Further, if you do find snorers offensive, you always have the choice of finding more private accommodation! Snoring is, after all, a lowest common denominator element of the camino that we all live with in one way or another.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Every tired and worn out shift working nurse and medical professional I know of uses and swears by the efficacy of 'BluTac'.
I can add my own experience as well, having shared mountain huts with twenty dog tired snoring middle aged hikers many times . One poor woman who shared a hut with us dubbed the crew the '' Snorecestra'' . 'BluTac enabled her to have a decent night's rest .
In case you have not heard of it [ intentional pun :)] or know it by another name , " BluTac' is that soft malleable putty used for sticking posters to walls .

As far as I know it is non toxic , doesn't seem to cause skin irritation and is ; best of all cheap and easy to use . The only drawback I know of is that it may occasionally pluck the odd hair when applying it .

I brought a pack of about twenty foam ear plugs with me, and didn't use a single one. What I did instead was put in my earbuds and listen to podcasts on my phone. Having something to listen to kept me from focusing on the sounds around me.

well, I've endorsed shoes, back pack, and travel medical insurance, but I don't get kick-back...and I doubt anyone here is on the take for hiking poles or Ryan air:rolleyes:...I don't mind people saying what they like, i can decide if I want it or not....

Gently people. Please take any personal comments to PM.

Nope, just make sure it is in far enough but not so much it pushes and hurts.. :)

Well Doug, I take it you've never bought a product and been extremely grateful that is was created and wanted to show appreciation by helping the creator and the people who would benefit from it.. As stated above, quality sleep to me is priceless and like being adequately prepared it can mean the difference between a great experience and a miserable one... Thankyou for sharing your thoughts though, it's nice to know you wouldn't buy it.. ;)

The question is not about what either of us might want to do, it is about whether it is appropriate to use this forum to promote a commercial product, which is what I think you are doing here in this thread.

It is quite a different thing for us to share information based on our experiences with particular products when other members seek that advice.

Most of us are able to do that without plagiarizing the product's advertising literature, and often provide a more balanced view of both the pros and cons, even for products that we like and will continue to use.

@dougfitz

It would be really helpful if you could back up your claims with some sort of proof instead of just accusations. SY
@SYates, I had no desire to repeat the makers claims. @Ryan Alexander has provided a link to their web page. If you go there, you will find the claims made about noise absorption at the start of the thread are lifted from the maker's promotional material.

I have no opinion whatsoever on earplugs and their promotion but these two comments made me wonder about a cost-benefit-analysis and what would be cheaper in the long run: a highly efficient pair of earplugs in mass dormitories or private rooms ;).
If not being disturbed by snorers were the only reason for choosing to use a private room, I would suggest any well fitted ear plug will win hands down. How much more you are prepared to pay for additional noise attenuation is where the real cost-benefit analysis might be useful.

Sorry, that doesn't prove that the OP is in any way connected to the manufacturer like your posts imply. It just shows that he was a bit lazy in finding his own wording ;-) If he truly was a professional promoter/copy writer, he would have written his own promotional text.

Until proven otherwise, I always stick to "innocent until proven guilty" ... Buen Camino, SY

@SYates, I don't suggest that @Ryan Alexander is employed by the maker, merely that by repeating their promotional material, he has made himself a proxy for them. I am prepared to accept that he thinks he is providing a testimonial. My concern is that is difficult in this instance to distinguish that from the commercial advertising the maker is doing themselves.

Thank you @SYates
I didn't even realised I'd copied the marketing blurb, I was just trying to keep the description simple for what they are, they go in your ears and they block/absorb noise, nothing fancy. Well anyway I'm on Day 23 Ponferrada, nearly there now! Have a great weekend all. :D
